SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Junior Breanna Daniels scored 20 points and the Truman Women's Basketball team grabbed 30 more rebounds than the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars in a 67-50 non-conference road win on Wednesday night. Truman is now 5-4 on the season and will embark on a two-game conference road trip beginning Monday at Fort Hays State. (Kan.).
Freshman Bianca Swfarowicz's put back as the first half clock expired capped off a 10-0 Truman run and sent the Bulldogs to the locker room with a 29-20 lead.
The lead would grow 18 as the Bulldogs dominated the boards and were able to shutdown the Prairie Stars' leading scorer Paulina Pogorzelski. The UIS senior forward came in to the game averaging over 14 points and a Great Lakes Conference leading 7.9 rebounds per game and finished with just four points and three boards.
Daniels was the only Bulldog to score in double figures however Truman got scoring from all but three players. Nicole Gloor added nine, Jennifer Conway seven and Amy Galey six with five assists.
Rebounding was a huge factor in determining the outcome of the game. Truman pulled down 48 boards including 19 on the offensive end while the Prairie Stars had 18 total rebounds. Junior Erin Glogovsky, one of the three Bulldogs who did not score, had a game-high 10 rebounds. Truman out rebounded UIS in the second half by a 24-4 margin.
Truman has now won three straight road games and will return on the road for a pair of conference games starting Monday at Fort Hays State and continuing next Wednesday at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
