CHICAGO – The Bulldog women won five events and Jerod Simek won the 400 IM in the final day of the Phoenix Fall Classic hosted by the University of Chicago. The women finished second with 711 overall points while the men placed fourth with 430.
The four individual event wins by the women were all NCAA B-cut times. Taylor Birsa won the 400 IM in 4:34.64 while Casey Jepsen took the 200 Free in 1:52.85. Beth Eyanson won the 100 Fly in 58.11 and Abby Hempen claimed the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.80, which was also a pool record.
Jessica Jenkot also notched a B-cut time in the 100 backstroke with a second place time of 58.58.
The 400 free relay team consisting of Jepsen, Hempen, Margaux Kent and Jenkot took first in the final event of the meet by swimming 3:34.24.
Simek won his third event of the meet by taking the 400 IM in 4:03.82. It was his third B-cut time during the weekend.
Eric Mikolajczyk swam in the finals of the 200 free, placing seventh while Tony Hernandez placed sixth in the 200 breaststroke and Etienne Thro was fifth in the 100 fly.
The Bulldogs next meet will be a dual rematch with Missouri State University in Kirksville on Jan. 14th. At that meet, Truman will honor their seniors.

CHICAGO – Jerod Simek has broken his own two school records and five Bulldog women have swum NCAA “B” cut times in individual events as day two was completed at the Phoenix Fall Classic hosted by the University of Chicago. The Bulldog women are in second place while the men third heading into Sunday's finale.
Simek swam 15:43.28 on Friday to break his own record in the 1650 Free while establishing an NCAA “B” cut time in the event. On Saturday, he took first again with a school record, this time with a mark of 4:32.05 in the 500 freestyle race. That time is also a B cut.
On the women's side, Allison Harding notched the first qualifying time in the 1650 by swimming 17:49.04 to place third on Friday plus the 400 medley relay team of Jessica Jenkot, Abby Hempen, Beth Eyanson and Casey Jepsen took first and broke a B mark of 3:54.20.
Taylor Birsa and Hempen both claimed B marks with a second and third place finish in the 200 IM. Jepsen placed third in the 500 free in a B time of 5:10.49. Harding picked up her second B time of the classic by winning the consolation final in a time of 5:07.07.
Hempen and Jepsen each placed first in events later on Saturday with Hempen winning the 100 breaststroke and Jepsen the 100 free. Jepsen missed the B time in that event by one-one hundredth of a second.
Through two days, the Truman women have won three of the four contested relay events.
