KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Despite their lowest shooting percentage of the season, the Truman women still cruised to a 62-46 win over Rockhurst University on Saturday evening to remain unbeaten through the first five games. Breanna Daniels led four Bulldogs in double-figures with 14 points as Truman will get set for the conference opener on Wednesday night in Joplin, Mo.
Daniels hit four three-pointers on the night as the Bulldogs led wire-to-wire but shot just 32% from the field. The Truman rebounding was key as they grabbed 10 more boards than the winless Hawks including 17 on the offensive end for 19 second chance points.
Truman led by 10 at the break before extending it to a game-high 23 on a pair of free throws by freshman Allie Norton, who finished with 10 points.
Jennifer Conway added 10 as well and Jenny Dorman dropped in 11 on a pair of three-pointers and a perfect three-for-three at the line.
MaKayla Grahn and Kara McFarland each scored eight to pace Rockhurst. The Hawks shot 32% from the floor and were just 1-of-8 from behind the three-point stripe.
The Bulldogs have started 5-0 for the first time since the 2007-08 season and for only the third time in the program's 40 years.
Truman will open up play in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association on Wednesday night as they face Missouri Southern State University on the road. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
