Kansas City, Mo. – Truman Track & Field student-athletes Derek Atwood and Jennifer Zweifel were selected as the MIAA Athletes of the Week for their performances at the Iowa State Holiday Preview.
Atwood, the redshirt senior, won the season opening shot put at the Iowa State Holiday Preview this past Friday. Atwood bested 11th other throwers with a mark of 51-02.25 which is good for the 12th best in Division II in the early going.
Atwood's career best in the indoor season was set in 2010 at the Iowa State Cyclone Open and was 53-07.00.
Zweifel picked up provisional marks in both the long and triple jump in the opening weekend at Iowa State. Zweifel won the long jump with a mark of 18-05.75 while placing second to Nebraska-Omaha's Sami Spenner with a jump of 38-09.75. Both of those marks are good for fifth in Division II.
This is the first MIAA Student-Athlete of the Week recognition for both individuals.
