Bulldogs Pick Up Big Home Win

Box Score | Season Stats

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – After watching a 14-point lead dwindle down to just two with 4:04 to play, the Truman freshmen stepped up and were able to secure a 76-64 victory over Southwest Baptist on Saturday in Pershing Arena. Nicole Gloor made her first five shots, including two from outside to lead the way with 17 points.

Jaquavia Couch dialed in from three to cut the 14-point advantage to two before Bianca Szafarowicz cashed in on a bucket off an offensive rebound and got the “and one” to give the Bulldogs some breathing room. Gloor followed with a lay-up from a pass by senior Amy Galey and Truman's defense did not allow another Bearcat point over the final four plus minutes.

The 'Dogs raced out to an 11-point lead to start the game before the Bearcats took their own six-point advantage behind nine first half points by Kourtni Williams and eight from Ashleigh Gallio.

Szafarowicz, who scored a season high 12 points, cut the Bearcat lead in half after grabbing an offensive board, getting the put back and making the foul shot. The Bulldogs closed the first half on a 9-0 run and headed into the locker room with a 33-30 lead.

Jennifer Conway scored Truman's first six points out of the break as the team exchanged baskets to start the second half.

With the scored knotted at 42 apiece, senior Malorie Kicker buried a baseline triple to spark a 13-0 run that was capped off by a triple by Gloor.

The Bulldogs shot 47% from the floor with Daniels (12) and Conway (11) joining Szafarowicz and Gloor in double-figures.

Lakendra Smith led the Bearcats with 15 points while Williams finished with 14 and Gallio dropped in 13. SBU was 7-of-24 from beyond the arc.

The Bulldogs swept the season series from the Bearcats and picked up their seven conference victory of the season. Truman will host Fort Hays State on Thursday night in a huge conference game as the two teams are battling for a spot in the MIAA postseason tournament.
