Game Preview:

The Truman women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Pershing Arena after a three-game road trip for four of their next five games starting on Wednesday night when they host the University of Central Missouri at 5:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs snapped a four-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon as they held Lincoln University to their lowest point total of the season and handed the Blue Tigers their worst loss of the year in a 70-48 victory in Jefferson City. Becka McHenry and Nicole Gloor each scored a career high 24 points in the win with Gloor also pulling down a career benchmark 12 rebounds, nine offensive. The Bulldogs grabbed a season-high 57 boards against the Blue Tigers and finished the game with 19 more rebounds.

The Jennies have won three straight, all at home, with their most recent victory being a 72-67 triumph over Missouri Western State University on Saturday. Central found their touch from long range as they buried nine treys with three apiece from Renae Shippy and Saraethea Brown. Nicole Caddell paced the Jennies with 19 points as Central held off the Griffons after leading by as many as 16.

Central leads the MIAA in three-pointers per game at 8.3 a contest while Truman is allowing opponents to shoot 32% (good for ninth) from beyond the arc. Both teams have a scoring margin of 10 points or more and both teams grab around 40 rebounds per game. The Jennies have a slight edge in blocks at 5.5 per game.

Caddell is second in the MIAA in scoring at 16 points per game while Truman's Becka McHenry is sixth at 13.9. McHenry is ranked in nine individual stat categories entering the week including points, rebounds, assists, free throw percentage, steals and minutes played.

About The Bulldogs:

Junior Becka McHenry leads Truman in scoring and is 6th in the conference at 13.9 points per game. McHenry is averaging 15.3 in nine conference games while shooting 43% from the floor and 4.5 assists per game. Junior Jennifer Conway, returned to the lineup on Wednesday night after missing one game with an injury, is second in scoring at 11.7 per game and 6.2 per contest.

Senior Breanna Daniels is also in double-figures in scoring at 10.5 per game. Freshman Allie Norton leads the team with 32 three-pointers and is shooting 45% from beyond the arc.

The Bulldogs are averaging 70.8 points per game and 65.7 in conference games. They are shooting 41% from the field, 40% from beyond the arc and 76% from the foul line.

The Series:

The Jennies lead the overall series 56-8 with a 25-5 advantage in games played in Kirksville. Central is 3-2 in the last five games played against the Bulldogs.

Last year the teams won on the others home court with Truman rallying from 18 points down in the second half to win 78-74 in overtime in Warrensburg. Becka McHenry scored 22 points and was 6-of-7 from the field in the second half and overtime to give Truman their only lead of the game in the extra five minutes. Renae Shippy had 18 for the Jennies on four, three-pointers.

In the rematch in Kirksville, Central exploded for 50 second half points while shooting 62% in the half to overcome a 12-point Truman lead to win 71-62. Rebecca Roberts paced the Jennies with 14 points and eight rebounds while Amy Galey scored 13 on her senior day game for the Bulldogs.

Bulldog Trends:

In the last five games (1-4) Truman is shooting 35% from the field with just 29% (16-of-55) from beyond the ar. The Bulldogs are a minus -1.6 in turnover margin in those games. They have outscored their opponents by 15 in the first half but have been outscored by 22 in the second. The overall scoring margin in the last five games has been minus -1.4.

In games this season, the Bulldogs are 5-2 and have shot 46% from the field and 45% from beyond the arc. They are averaging 79.7 points offensively while giving up just 60 per game. They have a positive turnover margin of 7.3 and outrebound opponents by over six a game.

Quick Look Around The MIAA:

Tonight will be the final round of the first half of conference play and the conference sees Pittsburg State and Washburn atop with one loss apiece. Emporia State is third with two losses followed by Fort Hays State in fourth with three. Central Missouri is holding on to fifth with a 5-4 record with Truman and Lincoln a game back at 4-5.

Missouri Western holds on to the eighth spot at 3-6. Northwest Missouri (2-7) Southwest Baptist (1-8) and Missouri Southern (1-8) are currently on the outside looking in.

Surpassing A Grand:

With 13 points against Pittsburg State on Dec. 3rd, senior Breanna Daniels became the 16th Truman women's basketball player to eclipse 1,000 points for a career and first since Georgia Mueller did so in 2009.

Daniels has started 80 of 95 games played during her Bulldog career and is shooting nearly 40% from the field with 128 made three pointers. Her single-game high in points is 27 against Northwest Missouri on Feb. 17, 2010.  She is averaging 11.5 points per game. Daniels had 62 double figure scoring nights with one double-double.

Daniels is third all-time in Truman history in made three-pointers (128), third in three-pointers attempted (367), eighth in free throw percentage (.782) and 10th in field goals (415), seventh in field goals attempted (1045) and sixth in games started (80).

Notable National Rankings:

In the latest set of national rankings released on Jan. 12th Truman was second Division II in three-point field goal percentage (40.5%). Arkansas Tech leads the nation at 41.9%.

Truman was 10th in Division II in turnovers per game (14.0). They were 18th in free throw shooting (76.4%).

Individually, Allie Norton was 7th in three-point field goal percentage (47.6%) while Becka McHenry was 31st in the country in assists per game at 4.6.

Truman is second in three MIAA stat categories; three-point field goal percentage (39.4%),free throw percentage (76.4%) and turnover margin (+3.4).

Bulldog Tip-Ins:

·         Truman is averaging 70.8 points and shooting 41% from the field, 39% from the arc and 76% from the line. Last season the team averaged 62.7 points shooting 39% from the field, 33% from beyond the arc and 66% from the free throw line.

·         The Bulldogs are 5-2 in Pershing Arena this season and 11-8 over the past two years at home.

·         Over the past two years, Truman is 8-9 on the road in conference play. From 2000-2010, the Bulldogs were just 15 and 75 (.200) in league road tilts.

·         Truman has led at the half in nine games this year and has won seven They have trailed the other five games and won two of them.

·         The Bulldogs have won the battle of the boards in 10 games this season with the largest margin of 19 against Lincoln. They have had a double-digit advantage in rebounds in seven games.

·         Three Bulldogs have topped 20 points six times this season. Becka McHenry and Nicole Gloor had single-game highs of 24 with both coming against Lincoln University. McHenry has had three 20-point plus games while Gloor has had two and Jennifer Conway one.

·         Truman has had five different players through 14 games lead them in scoring. McHenry has seven games while Gloor (3), Conway (2), Daniels (2) and Jenny Dorman have one game.

·         Five Bulldogs have each recorded double-doubles through 14 games. Jennifer Conway has two while Breanna Daniels, Allie Norton, Nicole Gloor and Becka McHenry have one apiece. Three Bulldogs recorded double-doubles last season with five coming from Jennifer Conway and one apiece from Amy Galey and Megan Sharpe.

Up Next:

The second half of conference season gets under way on Saturday as Truman will host Missouri Southern (5-10; 1-8 MIAA) at 1:00 p.m. The Bulldogs defeated the Lions 63-55 on Nov. 30th. Missouri Southern host Northwest Missouri on Wednesday night.

 Player Notes:

#5 Allison Wiese – Has appeared in eight games, three in the MIAA thus far…scored a season-high six points against Central Methodist while playing 13 minutes and adding two steals.

#10 Kaitlin Stump – Has missed the past 13 games with an injury…only action of the season was in the opener against Lindenwood-Belleville where she played eight minutes and had one assist.

#12 Allie Norton – Started all 14 games and leads the team with 32 three-pointers and a 45% three-point shooting percentage…has scored in double-figures seven times this season with a season-high 16 points against Quincy and Missouri Southern…is second on the team with assists with 34 and dished out 10 for a double-double against Central Methodist.

#13 Jenny Dorman – Has come off the bench in all 14 games this season…scored in double figures twice with a season-high 19 points against Central Methodist…averaging about 15 minutes per game and is shooting about 34% from the field and 33% from beyond the arc.

#15 Jennifer Conway – Started 13 games and is second on the team in rebounding (6.2 rpg) and is second in scoring at 11.7 points per game…has been in double-figures 10 times this season with a high of 20 points against William Penn…shooting 46% from the floor and has two double-doubles.

#21 Megan Sharpe – Joined the team on Dec. 3rd after earning all-America honors for the third straight year on the volleyball court…has played in eight games, making three starts…had the game-winning basket against #15 Washburn as time expired while also playing a season-high 25 minutes.

#22 Becka McHenry – Team leader in minutes played at 31.1 per game while also first in scoring 13.9 and first in assists with 65…has scored over 20 points on three occasions with a high of 24 against Lincoln…been in double-figures nine times and had a double-double with 10 assists against Southwest Baptist.

#24 Sarah Gaeddert – Had played in 12 games this year and averaging around eight minutes a game…scored a season-high four points against Lindenwood-Belleville, Central Methodist and Northwest Missouri and added three assists with six rebounds in a win over Rockhurst.

#25 Bianca Szafarowicz – Has started two and come off the bench in 12 games…shooting 48% from the field and is third on the team with 25 offensive rebounds…scored a season-high 11 points in a win over William Penn and pulled down nine rebounds with six offensive in a win against Lindenwood-Belleville.

#32 Nicole Gloor – Has started 11 games and came off the bench in the other three games…is the team's top defensive player…has scored in double-figures six times this season with a high of 24 against Lincoln…second on the team lead in steals with 18 and second with five blocked shots…averaging over 23 minutes per game.

#41 Rachel Remick – Played in all 14 games making one start against Northwest Missouri…scored in 12…season-high is eight points against Emporia State on Dec. 17th…posted a season-high nine rebounds against Lindenwood-Belleville.

#42 Breanna Daniels – Has started 12 games and came off the bench in the other two…averaging 26.9 minutes in each…has been in double-figures nine times with a season-high 15 points coming against Missouri Western.…has one-double-double on the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds against Lindenwood-Belleville…went over the 1,000 career point total with 13 against Pittsburg State on Dec. 3…a third team all-MIAA member and Academic all-district selection last season.
