Bulldogs Hold On To Win Fourth Straight Over Southwest Baptist

Box Score

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Truman's Jennifer Conway scored 17 points in the first half and Becka McHenry scored 20 of her 24 in the second as the Bulldogs held off Southwest Baptist 77-68 to earn their fourth straight win over the Bearcats on Saturday. With the win, the Bulldogs move up to sixth place in the conference standings.

Conway (Waterloo, Ill., Waterloo) was on fire early on as she was 8-of-11 in the first half and the Bulldogs (12-8; 7-8 MIAA) raced out to a 27-10 lead.

The lead would expand to 18 points in the second half as
McHenry (Fraser, Mich., Fraser) began her scoring barge that would be needed by the 'Dogs.

Chasity Prince keyed an SBU 12-2 run following that basket with 10 of those dozen points to allow the Bearcats (8-12: 4-11 MIAA) to climb back into the contest.

A pair of conventional three-point plays by Conway and McHenry sandwiched a field goal by
Megan Sharpe (Edwardsville, Ill., Edwardsville) to right the ship momentary and give the Bulldogs a 55-41 lead with 10:17 left.

The Bearcats would then go on a 17-6 run over the next six minutes and Prince's basket at the 3:19 mark trimmed the lead to just three at 61-58.

McHenry got a pair of free throws to fall then later
Allie Norton (Bloomington, Ill., Central Catholic) knocked down her third three-pointer of the game to expand the lead back to eight with 1:49 to play.

Bianca Szafarowicz (Wheeling, Ill., Wheeling) then got a big put back off an offensive rebound to keep the margin at eight with 1:10 left and McHenry and Norton were perfect from the line in the final minute to preserve the win.

McHenry's 24 matched her career high as she was 8-of-14 from the field and 8-of-10 at the line. She added eight assists and five rebounds. Conway finished with 20 and Norton, with a three to start each half and the big triple down the stretch scored 13 for the second time this year against the Bearcats.

The tandem of Prince and Jacqui Zelenka led the Bearcats as Prince was 9-of-10 from the field for 20 points and Zelenka added 19.

Coupled with the win and Lincoln's loss at home against Central Missouri, Truman moved up to sixth place in the conference standings with a 7-8 record with five games left in the regular season. The Bulldogs will play at Fort Hays State, the fifth place team, on Wednesday night starting at 5:30 p.m.
