Box Score

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Bulldog Women's Basketball team broke a 10-year drought at Bearcat Arena with a convincing 91-71 victory over the host Northwest Missouri State University to improve to 2-0 on the season. Truman returns to the court on Sunday afternoon against Lincoln (Mo.) at 1:30 p.m.

Amy Briggs led all scorers with a career-high 21 points while Bianca Szafarowicz added her own career-high of 13. Allie Norton and Courtney Strait chipped in a dozen apiece as Truman made 8-of-13 (61.5%) of their three-point shots en route to victory.

The first ten minutes saw five lead changes and six ties until Nicole Gloor made all three free throw attempts and Michalina Tomczak scored in the paint to put Truman up by five. The 'Dogs would extend the lead to 10 following a three-point play from Courtney Strait and led by as many as 11 in the first half.

The Bearcats whittled the margin down and trailed by just one at 52-51 early in the second half when Ashleigh Nelson finished off her own three-point play.

Briggs answered at the other end with a three-pointer and Kasey Gassensmith sparked a 17-6 run over the next seven minutes to push the Bulldog lead out to 13 points.

Northwest scored six of the next seven to close to eight at 73-65 before the Bulldogs exploded for a 15-4 run down the stretch to put the game out of reach.

Truman won the battle of the boards with a 35-21 margin, including 14 offensive rebounds.

Briggs was 7-of-13 from the field with three triples. The Bulldogs shot 21-of-27 at the free throw line and had seven steals.

It was Truman's first win in Maryville since a 74-72 win back on February 5, 2003 and the largest margin of win at Maryville since Truman coach Amy Eagan led the Bulldogs to an 89-66 win back in 1999.
