PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Pittsburg (Kan.) State Gorillas used the momentum of a game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer to defeat the Truman Bulldogs 75-66 in overtime on the road Wednesday night.

Truman trailed by nine points in the first half but fought back and take a 54-53 lead with just under three minutes to play on a Courtney Strait jumper. Nicole Gloor added a basket off an offensive rebound to give Truman a three-point lead at 56-53 with a minute and a half showing.

After Allie Norton scored her first points of the night with 13 seconds left at the foul line, Brigit Hesser pulled the Gorillas to within two with a basket with eight seconds remaining. Norton was fouled again and hit the first but second bounce off the front of the rim and was taken by Cathy Brugman for the Gorillas.

Bordewick ended up with the ball in front of the PSU bench and heaved a 30-foot shot that touched nothing but net as the horn sounded to even the game at 61 apiece. The Gorillas then rode the momentum in the extra period outscoring the Bulldogs 14-5 in the final five minutes for the win.

Lizzy Jeronimus was held to 12 points in regulation but exploded for a dozen more in the overtime period converting on all three of her field goal attempts and making all six of her free throws for game-high honors of 24 points.

Truman had 59 rebounds on the night with career highs set by both Nicole Gloor (12) and Michalina Tomczak (10) while Gloor did most of her scoring at the foul line hitting 12 of 16 shots for 18 points. Amy Briggs added 13 with four three-pointers.

The Bulldog offense struggled in the spacious John Lance Arena, shooting 27% for the game, making 18-of-66 field goal attempts and five of 18 from outside the arc.

Truman will be off for the next 16 days before starting Great Lakes Valley Conference play in earnest when they travel to Lewis (Ill.) University on January 3 and Wisconsin-Parkside on January 5. Both teams were NCAA Tournament teams from last season with the Flyers picked to finish first in the GLVC East Division this season. Tip off from Romeoville, Ill. will be at 5:30 p.m.
