Sunday Recap (Prelim Results || Finals Results):
The Truman women's swimming team earned a second-place finish, while the Bulldog men took home third place in the 2013 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship/Invitational - held Thursday through Sunday.

Truman totaled 1,514.5 points overall in the women's swimming & diving championship, trailing St. Cloud (Minn.) State's first-place mark of 1,724.5. The Huskies only topped the Bulldogs by 49 points in the swimming events, as SCSU totaled 161 diving points in events Truman does not compete. On the men's side, the Bulldogs sat comfortably in third, trailing both SCSU and Lindenwood but easily holding off William Jewell by nearly 100 points.

While the Bulldog women were not atop the podium after the final event, the squad was able to keep alive a 24-year streak of placing either first or second in a conference meet.

Brynn Guardado got the night out to a fast start for the women's squad, taking home the No. 1 spot in the 1650 Free with a new NCAA B-cut time of 17:23.02. Jerod Simek and Nick Barabolak then took home second and fifth-place finishes in the men's version of the 1650 Free to add 31 combined points to the Bulldog men's score.

A quintet of Bulldog women's swimmers dominated the women's 200 Back finals in the night's third event, as Kristi Van Oost (2nd), Taylor Voelker (3rd), Ashley Shanel (5th), Beth Eyanson (6th) and Melanie Wilkes added 127 points to the Bulldog tally. Then, two events later, Casey Jepsen cruised to an individual title in the 100 Free - her third title of the weekend - by setting a new B-cut time of 51.70.

Abby Hempen later added a second-place, B-cut finish in the 200 Breast with a mark of 2:19.74, edging out teammate Margaux Kent who finished third at 2:21.65.

The Bulldogs then closed the night with a pair of B-cut times in the 400 Free Relay events, as the women's foursome of Jepsen, Bailey Peterson, Meghan Senne and Van Oost garnered a third-place finish at 3:30.72 before the men's squad of Tony Hernandez, Levi Hanks, George Dowdy and Etienne Thro matched the third-place finish with a 3:08.02 time.

Following the meet, junior Casey Jepsen was named the NSIC Swimmer of the Year, while Guardado earned NSIC Freshman of the Year honors.

Both teams will now await the NCAA announcement on Wednesday, February 20 regarding selection to the NCAA Div. II Swimming & Diving Championships, to be held March 6-9 in Birmingham, Alabama.

Thursday Recap (Day 1 Results):
Five combined B-Cut times in four events highlighted night one of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship/Invitational for the Truman men's and women's swimming teams on Thursday evening.

In the opening event of the night, freshman Brynn Guardado stamped a B-cut time in the 1000 Free, capturing first-place by more than seven seconds with a time of 10:18.89. Allison Harding also notched a B-cut time in the race, touching the wall in fifth at 10:29.78.

Then, in the men's version of the 1000 Free, Jerod Simek added his own B-cut time with a mark of 9:18.10, good for second-place in the event. In the process, he broke his own school record in the event, previously set in last season's NCAA Div. II championships - a time of 9:19.75.

Finally, in the 800 Free Relay competitions to close the abbreviated night, the Bulldog women took home first place in both the A (7:40.41; B-cut) and B (7:51.57) finals, while the men logged a fourth-place, B-cut time of 6:51.59.

Although the Bulldogs matched or out-performed each of the other schools in the swim portions, the women sit fifth with 172 points and the men third with 85 points due to results from the 3-meter diving competition. Truman does not compete in diving, and, taking out the 3-meter results, the Bulldog women would be tied for first in the swim-only standings.
