Simek Earns Points to Close National Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Truman men's swimmer Jerod Simek closed his three-event national championship appearance with a 14th-place finish in the 1650 Free event. 

The senior swam his final collegiate event in a time of 15:46.53, earning three points in touching the wall in front of Drury's Cory McVey.

Alex Menke from Queens (N.C.) won the event with a time of 15:11.50.

Friday Recap
Truman men's swimmer Jerod Simek placed 17th in the 500 free prelims on Friday morning in the second of three events for the senior at the NCAA Div. II Swimming & Diving Championships.

Simek finished two seconds shy of qualifying for Friday night's finals with a time of 4:33.84. His first 250 meters came in 2:14.43 and finished ahead of Allan Gutierrez from Florida Southern in the race for 17th.

Mark Rubin, from Incarnate Word, will take the top time into the finals on Friday night with a prelim time of 4:25.55.

Simek will close his event on Saturday with the 1650 Freestyle.

Wednesday Recap
Senior Jerod Simek's national meet quest began on Wednesday night as he placed 16th in the men's 1000 meter freestyle event at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.

Simek swam 9:24.36 in the first of three events that he has qualified for during his final championship meet. He scored one team point with the 16th place finish just ahead of Florida Southern's Raul Garrastazu and four hundredths of a second behind Grand Canyon (Ariz.) University's John Feely.

Mark Rubin, a senior from Incarnate Word (Texas) won the men's 1000 with a time of 9:02.85.
Simek will return to the pool on Friday for the 500 freestyle.
