Women's Soccer Recap: Truman 2, Indianapolis 0

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - A three-point day for sophomore Megan Whitehead helped drive the Truman women's soccer team to a 2-0 blanking of Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Park.

The Bulldogs (10-2-1, 8-1-1 GLVC) jumped on the board in the game's 38th minute, when senior Tori Owens tapped home a Whitehead cross. Then, with 22 minutes precisely to play, Whitehead came through with a goal of her own, as an Alexis Heffernan pass played Whitehead past the UIndy (3-7-3, 2-5-3 GLVC) keeper and set up a bottom left tally and a 2-0 lead.

Truman out-shot the Greyhounds 19-9 on the day, including an 8-3 tally on goal. The Bulldogs attempted six corner kicks to UIndy's one, with Bulldog keeper Katie Mattingly picking up her third solo shutout in the last four matches with a three save day.

Heffernan (6) and Whitehead (5) combined for 11 of Truman's 19 shots, with sophomore Megan Casserly adding three shots as well.

Truman's win sets up a battle for the top spot in the GLVC next Friday afternoon against Wisconsin-Parkside, as the conference's two 10-win squads square off at 3:30 p.m. (CT) at UWP. The Rangers will bring a 10-0-2 overall (8-0-2 GLVC) record into the contest.
