KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The University of Indianapolis scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to stay unbeaten in Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 23-20 victory over the Truman Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds ran up 509 yards of total offense including 334 on the ground to the Bulldogs 193 yards but it was the four, first half turnovers that put the Bulldogs on top 20-6 heading into the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Connor Barthel's five-yard run on fourth and goal, as he buried his way just across the pylon, pulled the Greyhounds to within 20-13 at the 11:30 mark of the fourth.

Truman's offensive problems continued as they failed to sustain a drive on their next possession and were forced to punt after not converting on third and one. On the next play from scrimmage, Matt Ripp ripped off a 70 yard run to knot things up at 20 apiece.

Ripp and fellow back Andrew Walker gained 186 and 152 yards on the ground respectively for the two-time defending league champions.

Truman went three and out again following the touchdown and the Greyhounds motored down to the Bulldog 14 where Scott Miller hit a 31-yard field goal that would prove to be the game winner.

The Bulldogs got across midfield following the field goal but failed to convert on a fourth down play at the Greyhounds 42. On their next possession with time winding down, Zach Tobin's pass flew over the head of intended receiver Derek Hammann on fourth and three from the Truman 43.

Tobin, making his first start of the season, was 8-of-21 for 51 yards with Devonte Black sharing duties at quarterback going 5-of-9 for 54 yards and gaining 27 on the ground before leaving again with an injury.

The Greyhounds put the clamps down on Truman's Garrett White. The senior back had just 41 yards rushing on 12 attempts with a long of 16. Truman netted a season-low 88 yards on the ground and 105 through the air.

The Bulldogs had the Greyhounds on the ropes in the first half aided by four Indianapolis turnovers.

Luke Lamar recovered an Andrew Walker fumble at the Greyhounds' 13 yardline in the first quarter but the Bulldogs had to settle for a game-tying 21-yard field goal by Roger Howard.

At the start of the second quarter, a mishandled snap by Barthel was picked up by T.J. Fine and he raced 87-yards to the endzone to put Truman up 10-3. Two plays later, Chris Stanton picked off Barthel and returned the ball to the Indianapolis 30.

On the next play, Tobin broke out of the pocket and went untouched for a 15-yard touchdown to give Truman a 17-3 lead.

The Greyhounds trimmed the lead when Miller was good from 42-yards away then later in the quarter, Matthew Bell picked off Barthel as the Greyhounds had moved to the Truman 31.

Howard added a 37-yard field goal in the third quarter after Black completed Truman's longest play of the day, a 36-yard pass to Felix Neboh on the sideline.

Statistically, the Greyhounds had 29 first downs to the Bulldogs' nine and averaged 6.2 yards per play to Truman's 3.5 while running 27 more plays from scrimmage than the 'Dogs. Indianapolis consumed 37 minutes of game time with possession to Truman's 22. However, both teams struggled on third downs with Indianapolis converting on 2-of-12 and Truman successful on 3-of-16 attempts.

The Bulldogs will be idle next Saturday and next be in action on November 1 when they travel to Bolivar, Missouri to face Southwest Baptist University at 1:00 p.m.
