Box Score
Truman (Mo.) State University 52 (5-3; 4-2 GLVC)
Southwest Baptist (Mo.) University 7 (2-7; 1-7 GLVC)

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Senior tailback Garrett White scored four times, had a career-high 229 yards rushing and became the first Bulldog in 11 years to achieve a 1,000-yard rushing season in Truman's 52-7 victory over Southwest Baptist (Mo.) University on Saturday afternoon.

White led the offense to season highs in total offense and rushing yards while averaging 10.4 yards per carry. The Bulldogs had 502 yards of total offense behind 350 yards on the ground. More importantly, the Truman defense limited a high-powered Bearcat offensive attack to a season-low 280 total yards after averaging 420 per game coming into the contest.

Truman scored on their first three possessions with the first drive marching 86 yards in 13 plays. White had 69 yards on the opening drive and Vince Garcia punched it in from two yards out for his first rushing TD to put the Bulldogs up 7-0.

White would make the catch on Devonte Black's three yard pass to make it 14-0 as the Bulldogs capped off their second drive of 10 plays and 45 yards at the 2:01 mark of the first quarter.

Roger Howard made it 17-0 with a 20-yard field goal to start the second quarter and White bookend the quarter with a five-yard run to finish off a 13-play 70-yard drive.

Truman held a 244 to 57 yards of total offense advantage at the break and limited the Bearcats to -1 yards of rushing in the first 30 minutes.

The second half was more of the same with White opening up the half with a 47-yard touchdown run and closing his day on a 64-yard scamper to hit the 1,000 yard mark on the number. He became the first Bulldog since Jerard Leverson to hit a grand rushing and the first 'Dog to gain over 200 yards in a game since Leverson's 204 against Washburn, both in 2003.

White moved into the top six of Bulldog career rushers with 2,663 yards passing a pair of Truman Hall of Famers in the process on Saturday. He passed Sharron Washington (1963-66) and Andre Gillespie (1982-85) while also tying Steve Powell (1974-77) four fourth in career rushing touchdowns with 31.

Garcia scored his second of the day early in the fourth quarter on a 35-yard run and Scott Schwend capped off the Truman scoring with his first collegiate touchdown of 20-yards. Schwend's score was one play after Derek Hamman returned a kickoff 64 yards after the Bearcats finally got on the scoreboard with an 11-yard TD reception by Nathan Mourik from Willie Tindal.

The defense held SBU to 280 yards of total offense with 230 coming through the air. D'Anthony Knight and Chris Jackson had interceptions for the defense and Knight and Brown both had fumble recoveries.  Truman had nine tackles for loss and Nic Abbate tied the Truman career record with his 37.5 tackle for loss.

Truman moves to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a showdown for second place in the final two weeks. The Bulldogs will host the red-hot Quincy Hawks for Senior Day next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Hawks are riding a four-game winning streak and are 6-3 overall after a 20-13 win over Missouri S&T.
