Women's Soccer Recap: Truman 2, Maryville 1 (2OT)

ST. LOUIS - - The Truman women's soccer team capitalized on a Maryville defensive miscue in the second overtime, as an own goal by the host Saints sent the Bulldogs to their 12th win of the season by a 2-1 count on Sunday afternoon.
 
Megan Frkovic sent a corner kick into the middle of the box, where the bouncing ball was misplayed by a Saint defender and deposited across the goal line for a 2-1 Bulldog (12-3-2, 10-2-2 GLVC) victory. Truman had to recover after giving up the game-tying goal in the 85th minute of action, after Alexis Heffernan scored her 10th goal of the year off an Allison Lockett assist in the 35th minute to put the Bulldogs ahead, 1-0.
 
Truman out-shot MU 10-7 overall and put two balls off posts in the match. Katie Mattingly made four saves in net for the Bulldogs, while Heffernan and Melanie Hunt led the Bulldogs with two shots apiece.
 
With the victory, the Bulldogs remained in a tie for third place in the GLVC standings with one match to play in the 2014 regular season. Truman will travel to Quincy on Wednesday night at 5 p.m. in search of a third straight win leading into next Sunday's home GLVC quarterfinal contest against a team still to be determined.
