Volleyball Recap: Truman 3, William Jewell 0

KIRKSVILLE - - Junior Abby Heise led all Bulldogs with 10 kills, while sophomore Kayla Bastian and freshman Jasmine Brown each added eight put-aways in a 3-0 (-15, -19, -21) Truman volleyball sweep of William Jewell on Friday night in Pershing Arena.
 
Truman (12-2, 8-0 GLVC) became victors of 10 in a row with Friday night's victory, while also setting a new rally-scoring three-set dig record with 73 in the match. 11 different Bulldogs recorded digs on the night, led by senior back row stalwart Abby Moser's 19 and 11 more from Brown.
 
The Bulldogs only trailed once in the entire match, as head coach Ben Briney was able to rest many regulars against the Cardinals (2-12, 1-7 GLVC). Heise played in all three sets and led all players in scoring with a dozen behind 10 kills, two block assists and an ace. She hit .625 for the match with no attack errors. Meanwhile, Brown came off the bench and totaled 10.5 points in just two sets of action on the outside, putting down eight kills to go alongside two blocks and an ace.
 
Juinor Emilee Walters hit .571 with five kills, with Bastian hitting .389 in her two sets – pairing eight kills with seven digs. Senior Meghan Zimmerman led all players with 39 assists, while tacking on nine digs and three kills.
 
The Bulldogs hit .237 as a team for the match  - highlighted by a .412 opening set that saw the squad put down 18 kills. Meanwhile, WJC hit a mere .101 overall but did out-block the 'Dogs 6-5.
 
Truman returns to action on Saturday afternoon for its annual "Dig Pink" match for breast cancer awareness. The Bulldogs take on current second-place GLVC team Rockhurst at 3 p.m.
