NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – Consecutive three-pointers by Courtney Strait and Allie Norton broke open an eight-point game and powered the Truman Women's Basketball team to an 80-62 against the host Trevecca Nazarene Trojans in the opening game of the Pops Duncan Classic in Nashville.

The Bulldogs will square off against Kentucky Wesleyan at noon on Saturday.

Norton finished with a game-high 22 points, making five three-pointers and closed to within 34 points of the 1,000-point club. She added six rebounds and two assists. Strait finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists while going 5-of-10 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line.

Strait scored four straight to get Truman's first double-figure lead at 19-8 midway through the first half and back to back triples from Sam Andrews and Norton gave the 'Dogs a 25-14 advantage with seven minutes left before the break.

The Trojans chipped away and closed to within five following a three pointer by Paige Baugher near the end of the first half.

Norton opened the second half burying her fourth triple of the night and five minutes later her and Strait delivered the knockout blow with threes on consecutive trips to push the lead to 14.

The Trojans pulled back to within 10 but a three-point play by Michalina Tomczak and a conventional three-pointer by Andrews with five minutes left put the game out of reach.

Truman won the rebounding battle 49-33 while shooting 44% for the game and 10-of-22 from outside. Tomczak came close to a double-double with 10 boards and nine points.
