Men's Basketball Recap: Truman 87, North Alabama 74

Sophomore Kyle Kanaskie scored a career-high 18 points, while the Truman men's basketball team drained 12 three-pointers in an 87-74 defeat of North Alabama on Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the Kentucky Wesleyan Holiday Classic. The Bulldogs will face host KWC on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. for the championship.
 
After a back-and-forth first half that featured 10 lead changes, the Bulldogs (2-2) never trailed in the final 20 minutes to earn their second win of the season. Truman hit 7-of-12 three-pointers in the first half before sealing the game at the foul line in the second – converting on 15-of-17 tries in the second stanza.
 
All 10 Bulldog players that saw the floor got into the scorebook, with Kanaskie leading the charge behind 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting (4-of-5 3FG) and a pair of free throws. Seniors Seth Jackson (16) and Reed Mells (11) also hit double-figures, with the trio joining fellow starters Patrick Burmester and Billy Daniel as a starting five that pulled down five rebounds apiece.
 
Mells also led the way with four assists, as Truman picked up helpers on 17 of 28 made field goals and turned the ball over just seven times. The Bulldogs turned 16 UNA (3-2) miscues into 16 points, with the Truman bench out-scoring the Lions' 30-7.
 
The Bulldogs take on Kentucky Wesleyan –a former member of the GLVC – on Saturday afternoon for the tournament championship. The Panthers defeated Grand Valley (Mich.) State 61-50 in Friday's other semifinal.
