KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Senior Reed Mells scored 14 of his game-high 18 points in the second half, as the Bulldogs used an 18-2 run early in the final 20 minutes to pull away from Iowa Wesleyan en route to a 75-57 win on Friday night in Pershing Arena.

With the Bulldogs (8-2) trailing 34-33 after IWC's (4-3) first possession of the second half, Mells scored 10 of Truman's next 12 points to put the purple and white on top, 45-36. Seth Jackson then added a lay-up, before Connor Erickson threw home a dunk on a fast-break to push the Bulldog lead to 49-36. Two more Jackson free throws made the margin 15, as it would never again drop below double-digits the rest of the way.

Truman opened sluggish against a pesky Tigers bunch, as Truman committed 11 turnovers and gave up 10 offensive rebounds in the first 20 minutes – but still led by one, 33-32, at the break. Isaac Gardner, Cole Myers, and Erickson each put home six points apiece for Truman in the half, but the 'Dogs shot just 40% from the floor – making nine of 22 baskets.

The Bulldogs upped their shooting totals to 46% in the second half, while limiting IWC to just 31% overall and just 1-for-5 from three-point range.

Mells' game-high 18 points came on 6-of-8 shooting (1-for-1 three-point) and a 5-of-6 night from the foul line, as the Iowa-native added three steals, two assists, a block, and a rebound. Meanwhile, both Cory Myers (10 points, four steals) and Erickson (10 points, five rebounds) chipped in double-figures off the bench, with Gardner adding nine points and Andrew Vander Zwaag finishing with seven points and three assists.

Jackson grabbed a team-high six rebounds for Truman to go alongside six points, with the Bulldogs as a team sinking 23-of-27 free throw attempts for an 85.2% clip.

Brock Butler led IWC with 12 points, and Will Stephenson added 11 points and six rebounds.

The Bulldogs will now take the next 12 days off from competition and are set to return to the court on Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 12 p.m. to play host to Hannibal-LaGrange.
