KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - -
Seth Jackson scored 20 of his career-high 33 points in the first half, and the Truman men's basketball team shot a blazing 69% in the second half to pull away in a 91-76 Great Lakes Valley Conference-opening victory against Quincy (Ill.) on Saturday afternoon in Pershing Arena.

Truman (5-2, 1-0 GLVC) won its fourth in a row behind a career day by Jackson, as the St. Louis-native hit 13-of-24 shots and 7-of-10 free throws to lead all players with 33 points. His outing marked the third straight time that a Bulldog poured in 30 or more points against Quincy dating back through last season, when Mike Carlson scored 37 and 40 against the Hawks during the teams' two regular season meetings.

A back-and-forth first half ended with a flourish for the 'Dogs, as a three-point Truman deficit with 1:38 to go was wiped clean by Jackson, with the senior putting in three lay-ups – including one with less than one second to play – to give Truman a 38-36 halftime advantage.

After QU (4-4, 0-1 GLVC) got a bucket on their first possession of the second half, the Bulldogs blew the doors wide open with an 11-0 run in less than two minutes to pull ahead 49-38 with 17:01 to play. Quincy got within double-figures just once more, as a 10-0 Bulldog blast at 55-45 pushed the margin to 20 with 11:17 remaining on the clock.

The lead would reach 24, before Quincy reeled the Bulldogs back in with a late press. Truman's lead was never less than 13, however, as the Bulldogs finished the second half by shooting 20-for-29 overall, including 6-of-10 from three-point range, to seal the program's fourth straight win against QU.

Along with Jackson's 33, both Kyle Kanaskie (13) and Reed Mells (11) reached double-figures for the Bulldogs, with Kanaskie matching his previous career-best with eight assists. The Pennsylvania-native added six rebounds and three steals, while Mells, Jackson, and Patrick Burmester each finished with a pair of assists. Burmester's seven rebounds led all Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs shot 52.3% (34-for-65) for the game from the field, which included an 8-for-20 (40.0%) line from three-point range. Truman also converted on 15-of-18 free throws (83.3%) and forced 17 Hawk turnovers.

Evan McGaughey led the Hawks with a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double, while three players off the bench also finished in double-figures for QU. The Hawks shot 45.2% for the game and out-rebounded Truman, 37-31.

Truman will take the next week off for University finals, before returning to action with a home tilt with Central Christian (Mo.) on Saturday night (Dec. 13) at 6 p.m.
