Bulldogs Survive A Wild Double Overtime Thriller

Highlights: Courtney Strait scored 18 points, 13 in the second overtime period as Truman rallied from a 10-point and nine-point deficits to win for the 10th time in 11 games.
 
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – After Amy Briggs' three-pointer sent Saturday's Truman Women's Basketball game into a second overtime, Courtney Strait scored 13 points in the final five minutes and the Bulldogs survived for a 100-88 victory over the Bellarmine (Ky.) Knights in Pershing Arena.
 
Truman trailed by 10 in the first half but closed the period on a 12-3 run to send the teams into the locker room tied at 38 apiece.
 
The Knights built up a nine-point lead with over six minutes left in regulation but Bianca Szafarowicz's scored seven in an 11-1 Truman run that eventually gave the Bulldogs a 65-64 lead with 1:16 left to play.
 
Destony Curry took the lead right back with a three-pointer to put the Knights back up by two with 55 seconds showing.
 
Briggs rainbowed in a triple to leapfrog the 'Dogs back on top with 32 seconds left and Strait hit a pair of free throws to make it a three-point game with 11 showing.
 
Curry launched a trey from four steps clear of the arc to knot the game at 70 apiece and sent the game into overtime.
 
Kelsey Adwell put the visitors back on top with under a minute left in the first OT and Morgan Clemons extend the margin to three with a pair of free throws with 12 ticks left.
 
Out of a timeout, Kasey Gassensmith launched a baseball pass down the floor that was corralled by Briggs who caught the ball and looped to the left baseline before having her fourth three-pointer of the game fall through the net to tie the game again with seven seconds left.
 
Truman survived a pair of misses on the other end of the court to see the game move into the second overtime.
 
The Knights took their final lead at 84-83 on a basket by Clemons with 3:47 left but then Strait took over.
 
Truman's sophomore scored 11 straight points and took over the game for the Bulldogs. Strait finished with a season-high of 26 points and also tied the Truman free throw shooting mark by going 13-of-13 at the line.
 
Briggs finished with 20, 14 coming in the first half with Nicole Gloor and Allie Norton adding 15 apiece. Truman was 28-of-67 from the field (41%) and had the second most made and attempted free throws in single-game history with a 36-of-46 showing (78.3%).
 
The Knights got big production from Clemons, as she tallied 23 points and 14 rebounds. Bellarmine owned the glass by a 52-31 margin including 21 offensive boards but only outscored the Bulldogs 13-10 in second chance points.
 
The game featured 68 total fouls, lasted over two and a half hours with eight players fouling out.
 
Truman will head out on the road for a pair of games next week against two more GLVC charter members. The Bulldogs will face the University of Indianapolis on Thursday and Saint Joseph's (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon. Tip time is scheduled for 5:30 eastern, 4:30 central.
