Match Breakdown:
  • Fans who arrived late might have missed nearly all of the fireworks on Friday afternoon, as a testy long-standing rivalry between Truman and Rockhurst wasted no time turning up the heat.
  • After a foul at mid-field, the Bulldogs were able to advance the ball just outside of the Rockhurst six-yard box after RU keeper Logan Feldmann was issued a straight red card for dissent. On the ensuing indirect free kick, Corey Nolte tapped the ball to Craig McLaurine, who rocketed a shot over the last line of Hawk defense for a 1-0 edge in the 11th minute. It was McLaurine's team-leading fourth goal of the season.
  • However, just 49 seconds later, Rockhurst evened the match off a corner kick, as Drew Douglas' out-swinger was hit home by Nick Caruso.
  • But then, only 54 seconds after that, Truman took advantage of new RU keeper Quentin Coates, as a shot by Nolte was deflected – but not held – by Coates right to the waiting feet of Trevor Kaufmann who put home the rebound for his third goal of the season.
  • Truman continued the pressure up a man, and at the 14:43 mark of the first half, the Bulldogs earned a penalty kick after a foul inside the RU 18-yard box. Nolte stepped up and converted his third PK of the season – and third goal overall – to push the lead to 3-1 with still 75 minutes to play.
  • The strong play continued, as the teams overall combined for 39 fouls, but both keepers were relatively untested the rest of the way as the 3-1 score would hold firm.
  • Rockhurst took nine shots (two on goal) to Truman's seven (four on goal), with each keeper only making one save. Nolte le d the way with two shots and closed a four-point game with a goal and two assists in 58 minutes of game time.

Extra Notes:
  • Nolte regained the overall points lead on the squad with nine (three goals, three assists) on the year.
  • The Bulldogs have been feast or famine when it comes to goal-scoring this year. Truman is 5-0 when they score at least one goal and 0-5 when they are shutout.
  • The current three-match winning streak (Saint Joseph's, Lindenwood, Rockhurst) is the longest for Truman since Sept. 6-13, 2013, when the Bulldogs opened that season 3-0.
  • Truman is now 13-17-1 all-time against the Hawks, snapping a four-game RU winning streak dating back to a 1-0 Bulldog home win on Oct. 27, 2010.

Up Next:
  • The Bulldogs go for a fourth consecutive victory on Sunday when they host William Jewell at 12 p.m. at the Bulldog Soccer Park. The Cardinals entered Friday's action 2-5-2 overall (1-4-1 GLVC) and will face Quincy on Friday night before venturing to Kirksville.
