Big Third Quarter Gives Indianapolis Win Over Bulldogs

INDIANAPOLIS –A 17-point third quarter allowed the University of Indianapolis to down the Truman Bulldogs in their Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown on Saturday evening. Joey Schenck led Truman with 10 catches for 107 yards and a 41-yard touchdown reception.

Scoring Summary:
  • The Greyhounds took an early 2-0 lead following a safety at the 11:27 mark of the first quarter.
    • Key Play: Truman forced a Greyhound punt but UINDY punter Brad Schickel downed the ball inside the Bulldog two. On the first play, Malique Robbins was stopped by Lee Cambell in the endzone for the score.
  • Truman took the lead with 8:48 left in the second quarter on a 41-yard pass from Randy Schroeder to Joey Schenck.
    • Key Play: A poor kick by Schickel put Truman at midfield to start the drive. Randy Schroeder came in for his second quarter series and after an incomplete pass on first down, fired a strike to Schenck for the touchdown. The extra point was no good.
  • UINDY reclaimed the lead on a three-yard pass from Connor Barthel to Reece Horn late in the half. The pass capped off an eight-play, 58-yard drive.
    • Key Play:  Andrew Walker ran the ball six straight times to start the drive and his final run was a 13-yard burst that had a Truman face mask penalty attached it. The ball was moved from the 18 to the nine. Barthel connected on two straight passes to Horn for the score.
  • After winning the coin toss and deferring to the second half, UINDY used five plays and extended their lead to 16-6 on a 28-yard run by Andrew Walker.
    • Key Play: Reece Horn caught a 23-yard pass on second and eight to switch the ball from the 44 to the Truman 33. On the next play, D'Anthony Knight appeared to have intercepted Barthel at the Bulldog 14 with a return out to the 40 but a five-yard encroachment call against the 'Dogs negated the turnover. On the next play, Walker raced in for the TD.
  • The lead grew to 19-6 following a 26-yard field goal by Schickel with 6:18 left in the third quarter.
    • Key Play: Devonte Black was picked off by Aeneas White at the UINDY 27 and after returning the ball 19 yards to the 46, a 15-yard unsportsmanlike foul pushed the ball into Truman territory. Barthel hit Malcolm Fogle for 24-yards on first down but the Bulldog defense stood tall forcing just a field goal.
  • The Greyhounds scored their final touchdown on the night late in the third after Shakir Paschall rushed the final 19 yards with the last one being from one yard out to cap off a 10-play, 80-yard drive.
    • Key Play: Barthel found Malik Higgins for 33 yards on the first play, then converted a third and 10 with a 17-yard pass to Alex Kimack. Paschall would score on third and goal from the one.
  • Truman sustained their longest drive of the night early in the fourth quarter and finished it off with Randy Schroeder scoring from a yard out. The drive lasted 13-plays and consumed 71-yards.
    • Key Play: Schroeder hooked up with Kyle Spratt for 31 yards on third and 10 at the UINDY 37. A pass interference foul in the endzone moved the ball to the two with Schroeder scoring on third down from the one.
