WBB Recap: Grand Valley State 77, Truman 61

QUINCY, Ill. – The Grand Valley State Lakers defeated the Truman Women's Basketball team 77-61 in the 2015-16 season opener on Saturday night. The Bulldogs will be back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. against Northern Michigan as part of the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge.

Truman trailed 14-12 late in the first quarter but the Lakers used a 13-5 run spanning 4:22 seconds of the first and second quarters to build up their first double-digit lead of the night. They would take the same margin into the halftime break, leading 40-30.

A 15-2 run started by consecutive baskets from Taylor Parmley pushed the lead 64-42 early in the fourth quarter.

The Lakers had nearly 20 more shot attempts than the Bulldogs aided by an 18-7 turnover margin.

Courtney Strait led all scorers with 18 points as she knocked down six of nine shots and three, three-pointers. Kasey Gassensmith was 4-of-8 from the field and tallied 10. The Bulldogs shot 41% for the game.

Grand Valley had four players in double digits led by Brionna Barnett and Kayla Dawson's 16 points apiece. The Lakers shot 42% and was 8-of-27 from beyond the arc.
