Truman scored 16 of their 20 first half points in the paint with Michalina Tomczak (8) and Cassidy Clark (6) accounting for 14 of them. The Bulldogs led 10-2 five minutes into the game but the Lions roared back with eight of their own to tie things up.

Southern took a one point lead (21-20) into the locker room and led by three (29-26) until Jones knocked down the first three-pointer of the game for either team with 4:20 left in the third quarter. The teams were a combine 0-of-14 until that point from long range. On the Lions next possession, Holcomb drained a triple to extend the lead to nine points.

In the fourth, Holcomb scored the Lions' first nine points as they built up a 12-point lead with 7:05 left to play.

Rachel Edmundson and Tomczak converted on field goals later in the quarter to trim the lead down to six points however the Lions also used the charity stripe to keep Truman at arm's length.
