CARY, N.C.  – All good things must come to an end and the Truman Baseball team's run in the NCAA Division II National Finals did just that following a loss 13-2 to Cal Poly Pomona on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs season ends with a record of 35-21.

Kent Frantz gave up a leadoff triple to Kyle Garlick in the bottom of the first inning but Frantz induced three straight tappers on the infield to get out of the inning.

The Bulldog offense used that momentum swing to take a 2-0 lead. Dave Gambino got things started with a single through the right side then swiped second. After a pair of strikeouts, Jarod Hahn drew a walk and Wyatt Fones was hit by a pitch to load the bases. T.J. Wood continued his strong tournament by dropping a two-run single into right center field for the lead.

The Broncos evened things up in the bottom of the second aided by a pair of Truman errors. Nicholas Bruno singled in Matt Munoz with two outs then following the errors; Frantz walked Christian Kelley with the bases loaded to tie the game.

Garlick struck again in the fourth with a two-run double to the left center field wall scoring Bruno and Mike Philp.

In the fifth, Philp connected on tournament's only second home run in seven games with a blast over the wall in left. Cal Poly added another on Garlick's third hit of the day.

Garlick reached base four times and seven straight dating back to Sunday by going 3-for-5 with a run scored and three RBIs.

Philip added another home run in the bottom of the eighth as the Broncos hit three on the day.

Frantz lasted four and two-thirds allowing seven runs, six earned on nine hits. Matt Tometz, Mark Roberts, Nate Lukas and Austin Tinsley followed the freshman to the hill. Frantz falls to 9-3 on the season.

Ryan Olson improved to 12-0 on the season after throwing eight innings and allowing both runs on six hits and struck out 14 Truman hitters.

The Bulldogs historic season concludes with a school record 35 wins, their first winning season since 1982, their first NCAA Tournament berth and Midwest Regional championship and first trip to the Division II National Finals.
