KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Truman men's and women's swimming programs made it a clean sweep on Saturday in a home tri-meet against the likes of Lewis and Maryville. The men beat the Flyers for the first time ever with a big upset, 156-103, and the Saints 219-22, while the women beat Lewis 185-76 and Maryville 213-37.
Leading the way for the men were
Sam Heveroh,
Neil Girmus,
JT Thayer, and
Will Shanel. On the women's side, they were paced by
Emma Barnett who won two races as well as
Evyn Spencer and
Ally Neumann.
Heveroh's big day included wins in the 50 free (21.44), 100 free (47.24), 200 free (1:42.82), and 400 free relay (3:10.81). Girmus was a member of that relay team and also took first in the 100 breast (1:00.07), second in the 50 free behind Heveroh (21.49) and second in the 400 medley relay (3:31.72).
Thayer's victories came in the 500 free (4:46.39) and 1000 free (9:51.49) while Shanel won the 200 fly (1:54.07), the 400 IM (4:07.29), was second in the 200 back (1:58.19), and was part of the second-place 400 medley relay squad.
For the females, Barnett was victorious in both the 1000 free (10:47.09) and the 200 back (2:07.85). Spencer placed first in the 200 IM (2:10.46), the 400 medley relay (4:04.13) and was third in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.88. Last but not least, Neumann was a part of the 400 medley relay while winning both the 100 breast (1:09.21) and the 200 back (2:29.82).
Next up, Truman will compete in the Lindenwood Meet on Oct. 22 against Delta State and Indianapolis.
