Box Score (HTML)

QUINCY, Ill.  – Katie Mattingly stopped a career high 10 shots and Stephanie Williams tallied the only goal as #18 Truman Women's Soccer downed rival Quincy 1-0 to claim their first regular season Great Lakes Valley Conference title.

Williams got the winner in the 23rd minute after Hanna Burke feed a long pass to the Truman senior who in turn pushed it past Megan Swanson for the lead.

It was Williams' fourth goal of the season, second in as many games and 11th in her career.

From there it was an onslaught attack by the Lady Hawks looking for the equalizer. Quincy outshot the Bulldogs 21-5 overall with 11 on goal to Truman's two. Quincy had five shots, all wide or high in the last 10 minutes of the contest.

It was the 30th career shutout for Mattingly who improved to 34-7-10 through three seasons in the Truman nets.

The Bulldogs got the overall number one seed and conference championship by virtue of their 1-0 win at Rockhurst early in October. Truman and the Hawks had identical 12-1-2 GLVC records.

It is the 10th regular season conference title for the program since 1999 and first since joining the GLVC in 2013. The Bulldogs have won three other conference tournament championships, including last year.

Truman will look to defend that title on Sunday when they will host the University of Southern Indiana at noon at the Truman Soccer Park. The Bulldogs defeated the Eagles earlier this season at home 3-0.

Earlier in the afternoon, the NCAA Women's Soccer National Committee came out with their weekly regional ranking. Truman moved to two in the region, leapfrogging Rockhurst in the process. There will be one final ranking next Wednesday before the NCAA selections take place the following Monday.
