RECAP: Truman 3, Maryville 0

ST. LOUIS - The Truman volleyball team had no problem pushing its winning streak to three matches on Friday night with a 3-0 dispatching of Maryville on the road inside the Saints' Moloney Arena.

With their third win in a row, the Bulldogs improved to 6-11 overall and 5-3 in the GLVC while Maryville fell to 2-15 on the season and 1-7 in conference action. Kayla Bastian (pictured) had another big day as she led the team in kills (10), blocks (2) and digs (15). The senior notched her seventh double-double of the year while committing only one error on 21 attacks for a red-hot .429 hitting percentage.

The team's other leaders included Bailey O'Drobinak (two blocks), Savvy Hughes (29 assists) and Lauren Wacker (five service aces). Claire Wandrey also added three aces while Jocelynn Livingston and Natalie Brimeyer had nine kills and eight kills, respectively. Livingston hit .318 and Brimeyer turned in a clip of .667.

25 points into the first set, the visitors led by just one, 13-12, before finishing the set on a 12-4 run. That set was the best offensive effort of the night for Truman at .414. In fact, the Bulldogs hit at least .323 in each set and a combined .357 on the match, which marks the second time in the last three matches they have hit at least .330.

In the second set, the only lead the home team had was 1-0. After a second tie at 2-2, Truman completely controlled the momentum with a lead as big as 14 including 23-9 and 24-10 before the final 12-point margin. Three different times in that set, the Bulldogs rattled off at least four straight points.

The third and final set was by far the tightest one of the match as it featured eight ties and five lead changes. Each team's biggest lead was four points including  14-10 for Maryville and 23-19 for Truman. After the 23-19 point, the Saints scored four in a row to tie things up, but the Bulldogs tallied the final two points to win the set and the match in straight sets.

Truman will stay in St. Louis to face Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday with first serve set for 3 p.m.
