BOX SCORE (HTML)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Truman Women's Basketball team fell in their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener 72-67 on the road to Rockhurst University on Thursday. The Bulldogs return to the floor Saturday at William Jewell.

Rockhurst (5-2) grabbed their largest lead in the tightly contested game at 68-60 with 3:46 left to play but the Bulldogs scored six straight to get back to within two with 2:25 showing on the fourth quarter clock. Kaci German pushed the lead back to four with a pair of free throws and Rachel Edmundson tried to answer but made one of two to leave the score 70-67 with 1:44 on the clock.

Both teams squandered chances late and Truman ended up with the ball following a turnover with 14 seconds remaining. After a timeout and advancement of the ball to the offensive end, the Bulldogs drew up a play for Edmundson to attempt a tying three-pointer but it missed the mark. Mary Dineen iced the game with a pair of free throws to close the scoring.

Cassidy Clark continued her torrid week going for her second 20-point game in three outings.  Clark scored 23 points and added eight rebounds in the losing effort. Ashley Hartwig notched her second double-double of the year with 18 points and 11 boards but Bulldogs struggled at the free throw line going 10-of-19 and from outside hitting three of 20 three-point attempts.

Dineen, the GLVC leading scorer, got right at her average with 20 points and had three other players join her in double figures. The Hawks were 9-of-9 from the stripe and 7-of-21 from three.
