RECAP: Bulldogs In Another Nail Biter Against Missouri-St. Louis

Box Score (HTML)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis Tritons outscored the Truman Bulldogs 26-15 in the fourth quarter including a 10-2 run in the final two minutes to pull out an 80-70 win on Monday night.

Laura Szorenyi scored a game-high 24 points with four three-pointers, with three coming in the deciding frame.

The game was tied at half and Truman led by one at the end of the third. Jordan Fletcher broke the sixth tie of the contest early in the fourth. The two teams traded barbs for the next five minutes until Szorenyi connected on back-to-back treys sandwiched by a basket from Truman's Cassidy Clark to take 67-62 lead with 4:24 to play.

Chelsey Jacox knocked down the Tritons third straight triple to push the lead out to the largest of the night at six with 3:49 to play but Brooke Bailey responded for the Bulldogs to cut the lead in half on Truman's next possession.

Clark hit a bucket with 1:35 left to make it 72-70 UMSL. Szorenyi dialed three again but missed with Clark grabbing the board to give Truman a chance for the tie or lead but a turnover with 55 seconds to play gave the ball back to the Tritons.

Both teams played it straight up as UMSL worked the shot clock and game clock down and as the shot clock expired Szorenyi buried the dagger with a right-wing three-pointer to put the Tritons up two possessions with 25 seconds left.

Truman missed on a three-pointer then was forced to foul the rest of the game.

Szorenyi was 9-of-16 from the field, 4-of-5 from three and had four assists to go with her 24 points. Four other Tritons each scored 12 points apiece as UMSL shot 52% from the field, outscored Truman 42-32 in the paint and pulled down five more rebounds.

The Bulldogs had four scores in double-figures led by Clark's 18 points and seven rebounds. Baily and Rachel Edmundson both had 12 and Ashley Hartwig scored all 10 of her points in the second half.
