Season Stats

INDIANAPOLIS - - Redshirt sophomore Ashley Hartwig scored nine points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds, while the Truman women's basketball team out-scored the University of Indianapolis 22-12 in the final quarter to sweep the Hoosier State on a weekend road trip, outdueling UIndy 53-46 at Nicoson Hall.

The Bulldogs (16-7, 10-3 GLVC) and Greyhounds (6-17, 4-9 GLVC) battled all afternoon on the defensive end, as both teams struggled to get much going on the offensive end throughout the afternoon. However, the key stretch of the game came midway through the final quarter, when Truman, who trailed 40-37 after a four-point play by UIndy's Princess German, scored 10 in a row and kept the Greyhounds off the scoreboard for nearly seven full minutes to take a 47-40 lead with just 42 seconds to play. German would hit another three-pointer at the 34 second mark, but the Bulldogs hit six free throws in the final 32 seconds to pull away for the team's six win in its last seven games.

Truman's defensive intensity all season played through again on Saturday, as the purple and white held an opponent to less than 50 points in a game for the 10th time this season. That matches the 1972-73 Bulldog team (the very first Truman women's basketball season) to hold at least 10 opponents to fewer than 50 points in a game.

For Truman, game-high scoring honors went to senior Courtney Strait, who finished with 13 points and six rebounds in 32 minutes of action. Senior Kasey Gassensmith added 12 points and three assists, with Hartwig checking in with nine points, 11 rebounds (nine defensive), and two steals. The Janesville, Wis.-native added a key three-pointer – just her fifth of the season – during Truman's 10-0 late-game run, putting the Bulldogs on top 42-40 for what would be the team's final lead.

Junior Cassidy Clark put up big second half numbers, scoring all eight of her points in the final frame, while also adding four rebounds and a team-high three steals.

The Bulldogs shot 35.6% (16-of-45) from the field for the game but connected on 6-of-12 (50%) of its three-point attempts. The Bulldogs also shot 68.2% (15-of-22) from the foul line and out-rebounded the Greyhounds by a 33-29 margin, while also forcing the hosts into 17 miscues.

UIndy saw a strong effort by German come up just short, as the GLVC's leading scorer poured in 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting (6-of-9 3FG; 4-4 FT). The rest of the Uindy squad combined to shoot just 4-of-36 (11.1%) overall from the floor.

Truman officially clinched its GLVC tournament berth with Saturday's victory, moving the squad to 10-3 in league play. The Bulldogs have five games left in the regular season, with a three-game homestand set to begin on Thursday (Feb. 11) night at 5:30 p.m. against Wisconsin-Parkside in Pershing Arena.
