KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Laura Ney's second career goal off a header from Allison Lockett gave Truman Women's Soccer a 1-0 conference opening win over McKendree (Ill.) on Saturday morning. The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday at noon against the University of Illinois Springfield.

Lockett picked up her second helper in the first three games as she headed the ball over to Ney, who in turn headed it into the back of the net at the 81:49 mark of the contest.

The Bulldogs turned up the heat in the final 45 minutes as they took nine of their 10 shots in the half and had six shots on goal.

Katie Mattingly stopped all five McKendree shots on goal to notch her second shutout of the season and 20th in her Bulldog career.

Truman improves to 2-0-1 on the season, 1-0-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. McKendree falls to 2-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the league.

The game was postponed from Friday night when lightining and storms in the Lebanon, Illinois area played havoc with the schedule. The teams began today's match at 7:30 a.m.

The Bulldogs move up the road to Springfield for a Sunday match against Illinois Springfield. The Prairie Stars downed Quincy 1-0 on Friday night.
