INDIANAPOLIS - The Truman volleyball team concluded play in the Indianapolis Invitational on Saturday afternoon with a pair of tough-luck losses. The Bulldogs (1-7) dropped 3-2 decisions to both Saginaw Valley State (4-3) and Lock Haven (1-7).
In the first set against the Bald Eagles, TSU hit .279, its highest clip of the match, and had a lead as big as five (19-14, 21-16). However, Lock Haven fought back to take both sets two and three to put Truman in a 2-1 deficit. With the score tied 21-21 in the fourth, the Bulldogs scored four of the final six points to even the match at two sets apiece. in the fifth and deciding set, though, the Bald Eagles hit a red-hot .400 to just .136 by Truman and won the match.
Bulldog leaders included
Kayla Bastian (17 kills),
Savvy Hughes (31 assists) and
Lauren Wacker (24 digs). Both Bastian (17 kills, 20 digs) and Hughes (31 assists, 11 digs) turned in double-double efforts as well.
Truman carried all of the momentum in the first two sets of the match against Lock Haven as it won those games by scores of 26-24 and 25-18. Despite the Bulldogs hitting just .179 and .196 in those sets, the Bald Eagles weren't much better at .111 and .022. However, Lock Haven went on to win the third, fourth and fifth sets for the victory.
Game-two leaders were Bastian (21 kills),
Meghan Gasper (29 assists), Wacker (23 digs), and Bastian (23 digs). Gasper also notched her first-career double-double as she tallied 15 digs to go with those 29 helpers.
