BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Truman men's soccer team faced two one-point deficits including 1-0 and 2-1 before scoring two unanswered goals against Southwest Baptist on Tuesday afternoon to came out on top, 3-2.
The Bulldogs improved to 2-1-1 overall while the Bearcats fell to 0-5 on the season. In the team statistics, TSU held the advantage in shots (19-10), shots on goal (8-6) and corner kicks (9-3) while SBU was ahead in saves (5-4).
Gabriel Gaviolli put the home team up 1-0 with a goal in the 29th minute before freshman, 
Matt Yankowitz, became the second Bulldog to score two goals this season with a tally in the 47th minute. Yankowitz was assisted by 
Tyler Luebbert's first helper of the year.
However, Southwest Baptist took the lead for a second time just 40 seconds later when Emmanuel Poblano found the back of the net. Again, though, Truman stood strong in the form of 
David McCoy and 
Tristyn Hasmer. McCoy scored in the 68th minute and Hasmer did so in the 74th. That marked the first score for each of them. Hasmer assisted McCoy and 
Craig McLaurine helped out Hasmer for the third goal with his second dime of the year.
In goal, 
Zac Suazo earned his second victory of 2016 and fourth of his career with four saves on 10 shots faced.
Next up for the Bulldogs, they will make their home debut on Friday against Bellarmine with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.
