LEBANON, Ill. - Looking for a two-match win streak to start off GLVC play, the Truman volleyball team dropped a road contest with McKendree, 3-1, after winning the first set, 25-19.
The Bulldogs fell to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in the conference while the Bearcats improved to 7-4 on the season, 2-0 in league action.
Kayla Bastian led the squad in kills once again with 13 and
Jocelynn Livingston was the other Bulldog in double-figures for that category with 10. Other TSU leaders included
Meghan Gasper (17 assists),
Savvy Hughes (17 assists and 10 digs),
Lauren Wacker (14 digs), and
Natalie Brimeyer (four block assists).
16 points into the first set, the home team led 9-7 before its visitors went on an 8-1 run to go up 15-10. During that stretch, Wacker was responsible for two service aces and Gasper had one of her own. From that point on, the margin was never smaller than four and as big as eight in favor of Truman. That set, TSU hit a red-hot .577 with 15 kills and not a single error on 26 attacks.
The Bulldogs latest lead in the next set came 23 points in, 12-11, but the hosts took the lead back and never relinquished it. TSU cut the deficit to one five different times before McKendree won the set to even the match up at one set apiece.
Late in the third set, Truman led by one point, 16-15, but the Bearcats then rattled off 10 of the next 11 points to take the set and go up 2-1. In the fourth set, McKendree led throughout going up by as many as 14 while hitting .366 with 16 kills and only one error on 41 attacks.
Next up, the Bulldogs will travel to Northwest Missouri State on Tuesday with the match set to begin at 7 p.m. in Maryville, Mo.
