KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Two of the three goals No. 16 Drury scored against Truman on Friday came via the penalty kick, including the game-winner to break a 2-2 tie in the 87th minute off the foot of Ben Bruce.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the GLVC while the Bulldogs now sit at 3-3-1 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. It was all about Drury early on as the visitors scored a goal in both the 24th and 30th minutes, the first of which was also on a penalty-kick attempt.
However, the home team didn't go away quietly and the surge to make it a game began with a goal from
Trevor Kaufmann in the 44th minute, his first of the season. Kaufmann has been battling an injury all season, but was able to step up with the help of
Joel Reft's assist, his first of 2016.
In the 55th minute, the surge continued, and
Craig McLaurine notched his first goal of the year, this time with the help of
Ben Rosenblatt. That also marked the first helper of the season for Rosenblatt.
Over 30 minutes later, though, as mentioned above, Drury's Bruce was fouled inside the box and did the rest with his foot. That gave him five goals on the season, tied for the team lead with Antoine Vial who put the Panthers up 1-0 on Friday.
In goal,
Zac Suazo tallied two saves in a total of 16 shots faced, the most he has seen all season.
Next up, Truman will host Missouri S&T on Sunday with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.
