RECAP: Truman Goes Wire-To-Wire In Road Win At Maryville

ST. LOUIS – Behind 12 points and nine assists from freshman Sloane Totta, the Truman Women's Basketball team led from start to finish in a 69-54 win over Maryville University on Thursday night.
 
The Bulldogs moved over the .500 mark for the season at 9-8 and leveled their conference record at four wins and four losses. Maryville fell to 6-9 on the season and 2-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
 
Truman will play at Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.  The Tritons were a 57-47 winner over Quincy and downed the Bulldogs 80-70 in a non-conference game in Kirksville on December 19.
 
How It Happened:
  • Truman scored just four seconds into the contest as Cassidy Clark scored to start things for the Bulldogs.
  • The Bulldogs led 17-7 after one as they forced six Maryville turnovers and shot 41% from the field.
  • Maryville's Mary Barton's three-pointer got the Saints back to within four at 19-15 midway through the second but Sam Andrews answered with a three on the next Bulldog possession.
  • The Saints never got closer than that with Truman taking a seven-point lead into the locker room at half 29-22.
  • The two teams exchanged three-pointers again in the third quarter with Alex Wolf's triple cutting the lead down to five but Eleanor Lueke fired back for Truman.
  • The Bulldogs scored their final 13 points from the foul line and outscored the Saints 13-4 over the final 3:26.
Key Stats/Game Notes:
  • Totta had nine of Truman's 18 assists and finished 12 points, seven of which came at the free throw line.
  • The nine dimes were the most by a Bulldog since Allie Norton had nine against William Jewell on January 22, 2015.
  • Truman had 18 assists on 22 made baskets. It was a season high for the team and most by the Bulldogs since had 19 in a victory over Hannibal-LaGrange in November 2015.
  • Cassidy Clark finished with 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting and Rachel Edmundson added 13 on a pair of three-pointers and a 7-of-8 performance from the line.
  • The two teams shot identical 22-of-51 from the floor however Truman made three more three-pointers and outscored the Saints by 12 at the foul line.
  • The Bulldogs grabbed 12 more rebounds than the Saints 37-25.
  • Mary Barton for Maryville scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half and was joined in double figures by Ali Ringering (15) and Ellen Foster (10).
  • It was the third straight Truman win over Maryville.
