LIBERTY, Mo. - For their first action in two weeks, the Truman State University men's and women's swimming teams split with William Jewell as preparation for the TYR Invite on Nov. 17-19. The men fell to the Cardinals, 151-111, while the women came out on top by a score of 168-94.
"We had some very good swims today that came down to the finishes with only a matter of tenths between," said interim head coach,
Jerod Simek. "The team fought very well till the very end winning both of the 400 free relays, we are just not used to swimming short course meters. Even though we split the wins, we saw some positive things moving into our mid-season meet at Northwestern in two weeks. It was nice to have both
Megan Mensinger and
Justin King back in the lineups this weekend to add more depth and versatility with our events."
The men won four events while the women were victorious in 11 of them. For the men, their wins came in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and 400 free relay as mentioned above. It was
Sam Heveroh in the 50 at 23.97,
Lliot Gieseke in the 100 with a time of 52.55 and
JT Thayer in the 200 with a mark of 1:54.99. The victorious relay team was made up of Heveroh,
Caleb Kruse, Thayer, and Gieseke and they were clocked at 3:32.53.
Highlighting the women's performances were
Jasmine Roghair in the 800 free,
Mikayla Kempf in the 200 back as well as
Nikki Sisson in the 200 and 400 free. Roghair won that event with a time of 9:23.89 while Kempf touched the wall first and was clocked at 2:25.78. Sisson's first-place showings in those events came with times of 2:13.27 and 4:41.42, respectively.
