KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Women will break the seal on a new campaign with two games in three days. The 2017-18 season will tip off in Pershing Arena on Saturday evening when Truman hosts Missouri Valley College at 5:30 p.m. On Monday, the Bulldogs travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for a game against Augustana College.

Amy Eagan's Bulldogs posted a 15-13 record last season and 10-8 in the GLVC but were stunned at home in the first round of the conference tournament by Maryville 80-78 on a last second shot. It was the sixth straight winning season for the program.

Truman played an exhibition game at Drake on Sunday and fell 90-50 to the reigning Missouri Valley Conference regular and tournament champions. Drake raced out to a 23-0 lead to put the game away early but the Bulldogs were able to fight back and win the fourth quarter 19-18. Senior transfer Remy Davenport led the Bulldogs with 15 points in her Truman debut with all of her points coming from beyond the arc.

Davenport averaged 8.8 points in 31 starts for Nebraska-Omaha last season and left the Mavericks third on their all-time three-point shooting list with 194. She is at Truman to play with her freshman sister Tiffany Davenport. Junior Rachel Edmundson (12.3/g) and senior Ashley Hartwig (10.2/g) are the top returning scorers for the Bulldogs.

About Missouri Valley:
Missouri Valley enters the week 3-1 as the NAIA started play on October 31. They will play again on Thursday against St. Louis College of Pharmacy in the regular season before playing in Kirksville for an exhibition game on their schedule Saturday. They will play two more exhibitions on their schedule but regular season games for their opponents when they travel to Southeast Missouri State (Nov. 14) and Missouri S&T (Nov. 18). The Vikings were 9-17 last year and 14-18 in the Heart of America conference. Missouri Valley is led by Hilma Medevoci (17.0/g) and Veronika Petkova (17.0/g).
This will be the first ever meeting between Truman and Missouri Valley on the hardwood.

About Augustana:
This will be the Vikings season opener on Monday when they host the Bulldogs at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls. They were 23-8 last year and 17-5 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference falling in the conference tournament semifinals to Winona State 82-76. Augustana was picked to win the NSIC South Division and place second overall in their league coaches poll. They picked up a pair of first place votes. Logan O'Farrell is the returning leading scorer for the Vikings at 12.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest. She was the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year and first team all-NSIC.
This is the third matchup between Truman and Augustana. They last played in 1988 when the Vikings came to Kirksville as part of a holiday tournament. Augustana has won both prior games in the series.

Returning All-GLVC
Junior forward Rachel Edmundson was a second team all-GLVC player last year and sophomore guard Sloane Totta was named to the All-Freshman team. Edmundson averaged 12.3 points a night and shot 37% from beyond the arc and 76% from the foul line. Totta was the assists leader for Truman with 81 in 28 games and scored 7.4 points per game.

Academic All-GLVC
Seven Truman players earned the Academic All-GLVC award following last season. They were Rachel Edmundson, Jamie Gleeson, Ashley Hartwig, Taylor Koper, Rachel Steinhoff, Maddie Tharp and Sloane Totta. To earn Academic All-GLVC accolades, a player must have a 3.30 grade-point average over the academic year.
In addition, Koper, Steinhoff and Totta earned the GLVC Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholar award for posting 4.0 GPAs during the past academic year.
