KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Women will be looking to avenge a pair of early season conference losses when they begin their three-game regular season homestand on Thursday night against William Jewell College at 5:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs and Cardinals are separated by one game in the conference standings and it is the difference between going on the road for the first round of the GLVC Postseason Tournament or playing at home. Jewell is 8-7 following a Monday night 55-38 home win over McKendree. It was the fourth straight win for the Cardinals to vault up the league standings.

Truman picked up a big road victory on Saturday when they fended off Wisconsin Parkside 63-58 to keep the Rangers behind the Bulldogs in the standings. Ashley Hartwig matched career highs in points and rebounds (18 & 11) for her third double-double of the season in the win.

The Cardinals outscored the Bulldogs 23-11 in the third quarter and defeated Truman 68-63 on December 3 in Liberty. Hayden Butler was 8-of-12 from the field with five three-pointers to score 21 points to lead Jewell. Rachel Edmundson tallied 20 for the Bulldogs and played all 40 minutes but Truman was 3-of-18 from beyond the arc while the Cardinals were 10-of-24.

Truman will be going against one of the top defenses in the GLVC. The Bulldogs average 70 points per game while the Cardinals allow 61. In conference games, Jewell is second in scoring defense at 59.6. The Cardinals have not allowed an opponent to score 70 in six straight games while Truman 8-3 this season when getting about the 70-point plateau.

When looking at the overall league standings, regardless of division, there are seven teams separated by two games from sixth through 12. The Bulldogs can clinch a spot in the 12-team field with a victory or a loss by Missouri S&T (5-10). Truman is two games up on the Miners with a victory in hand.  Indianapolis, Missouri-St. Louis and William Jewell (8-7), along with Rockhurst (10-5), currently hold down the four spots that would host a first-round game on February 26 with Truman, Maryville (7-8) along with Saint Joseph's and UW-Parkside (6-9) being the travelers on that date.  The Bulldogs own victories over every team tied or below them in the conference standings.

The Bulldogs are 3-4 in conference Thursday night games with three games, one win and two losses decided by five points. Cassidy Clark has averaged 18.4 points in the Thursday night league games.
