RECAP: Truman's Rally Comes Up Short To Flyers

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Cassidy Clark scored 25 points in 25 minutes however the Lewis Flyers had three players in double-figures to hold on and down the Truman Women's Basketball team 73-66 on Thursday night.
 
Clark was 10-of-14 from the field and 5-of-6 at the line to register her sixth 20-point plus game of the season. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 15 points in the third quarter but clawed back to get to within two points at 65-63 with just under two minutes left to play.
 
The league's leading scorer, Jessica Kelliher converted on a three-point play in the next Lewis possession and the Bulldogs could never get it back to a one-possession game. Kelliher paced the Flyers with 19 points, 13 coming in the second half.
 
Truman falls to 11-12 overall and 6-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis improves to 19-5 and 11-3 in the league. The Bulldogs will travel to Wisconsin Parkside on Saturday afternoon in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Rangers were 75-61 winners over the Quincy (Ill.) Lady Hawks.
 
How It Happened:
  • After the score was tied 4-4, Lewis scored 11 straight to take their first double-digit lead of the night.
  • Sam Andrews' three-pointer stopped the run and Clark scored Truman's next five points to trail 20-12 after one.
  • The Bulldogs went 2-of-10 from the field in the first 10 minutes.
  • Gabby Green scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half but the Bulldogs outscored Lewis 21-20 in the second quarter to go into the locker room down seven. Ashley Hartwig hit a three-pointer at the end of the half to get it to 40-33.
  • The lead bounced between eight and 10 points most of the third quarter until Tiana Karopulos scored five of a 7-0 Lewis burst to put them up by their largest margin of 15 at 61-46 with 3:01 left in the third.
  • The Bulldogs responded with nine straight of their own. Clark made six of the nine and Brooke Bailey dialed from distance.
  • Sloane Totta cut the cords from three with 5:32 left to pull Truman to within four at 65-61.
  • The two teams would go scoreless over the next three-plus minutes before Clark made a basket to make it a two-point game with 1:58 to go.
  • After Kelliher's three-point play to make it five points, Lewis got the remaining points at the line hitting five of their final seven free throws.
 
Key Stats/Game Notes:
  • Clark scored 15 of her 25 points in the first half and was the only Bulldog in double-figures.
  • Rachel Edmundson, Hartwig and Bailey all had nine points apiece.
  • After shooting 20% in the first quarter, the Bulldogs hit 60% (9-of-15) in the second quarter.
  • Jamie Johnson added 14 points to join Kelliher and Green in double-figures for Lewis.
  • Green and Totta led their respective teams with six assists apiece.
