Box Score (HTML)

QUINCY, Ill. – A solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Quincy Hawks to a 2-1 victory in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener with the Truman Bulldogs on Friday night. The series will resume on Saturday.

Chris Iliopoulos gave the Bulldogs the early lead when he singled to center scoring Josh Abegg in the top of the first inning.

Starter Bryan Clark didn't give up his first hit until the fourth when Jake Walters led off with a double.  After retiring the next two hitters, David Hayes singled to center to tie the game.

Clark ran into trouble in the fifth when a pair of singles and a hit by pitch loaded the bases however Kent Frantz got the final two outs of the inning to preserve the tie.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Brynn Martinez broke the tie by swinging at the first pitch and driving the ball over the right center field wall.

Hawks starter Riley Martin set down 13 straight Bulldogs but ran into his own issues in the eighth. Wyatt Fones led off with a single and Mason King reached on an errarnt throw on a sac bunt. Abegg was hit by an 0-2 pitch to load the bases.

Quincy went to the bullpen and Brandan Moriarty wiggled out of the jam by getting the heart of the Bulldog order out 1-2-3. Brendan Trimble hit an infield fly to short, Dave Gambino struck out and Iliopoulos popped up to third to keep the Hawks in front.

Nick Agliolo picked up his second hit of the game with one out in the ninth but the game ended with Agliolo getting thrown out at second trying to steal. Cole Crawford got the save for the Hawks.
