Game 1 Box Score (HTML)
Game 2 Box Score (HTML)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Miners turned the tables on the Truman Baseball team on Saturday by taking both ends of the doubleheader by scores of 8-0 and 4-3 to earn a series split with the Bulldogs.

Truman will step outside of conference play on Tuesday with a trip to the Illinois state capital and a single-game with the University of Illinois Springfield.

S&T took advantage of some Truman miscues in the opener and Luke Marcheschi shutout the 'Dogs 8-0. While in the nightcap, the Bulldogs left 12 runners on base and couldn't get the clutch hit in falling 4-3.

For the series, Truman out hit Missouri S&T .331 to .270 with Jon Lyons hitting .667 with four hits in six at bats. Jason Priest (.429) and Dave Gambino (.400) also paced the 'Dogs.

S&T's Jake DeGarmo had three RBIs and hit .400 in three games while Zach Bracken (.385) and Eli Miller (.385) were on top of the ledger for the Miners.

Game 1 Recap:
An aggressive start by the Miners and a strong pitching performance by Luke Marcheschi gave S&T the first game on Saturday 8-0.

Reaching on a one-out single, Kaleb Reid took second on a failed pickoff attempt by Bryan Clark then raced to third when the throw back in was not corralled. The Bulldogs brought the infield in and on a chopper to second, Reid was able to get under the tag at the plate for the 1-0 lead.

Things spiraled from there for Truman. Lucas Swindle doubled and Zach Bracken got an RBI single for the second run. Jake DeGarmo plated two more as the Miners sent nine to the dish in the first and led 4-0.

Marcheschi gave up a one-out single to Mason King however he was thrown out trying to steal second during the ensuing at bat by Charlie Kreh. Marcheschi fanned Kreh looking and faced the minimum through four and two-thirds innings pitched.

Meanwhile, the Miners kept the pressure on with two runs in both the third and fourth innings to expand their lead out to 8-0.

Dave Gambino broke up the one-hitter with a two-out single in the fifth.

Truman didn't threaten until the seventh when they loaded the bases with three straight hits but left them loaded to end the game.

Marcheschi allowed six hits and struck out six to move to 3-4 on the season while Truman starter Bryan Clark fell to 3-3 after struggling to get out of the fourth inning.

Game 2 Recap:
The Bulldogs just couldn't get the big hit needed to overtake the Miners in the series finale.

After each teams exchanged runs in the first, S&T added two in the second and another in the third to lead 4-1.

The Bulldogs left the bases loaded in the fourth and two more on base in the fifth.

Trevor Bell got an infield single to start the sixth and Jon Lyons crushed his first collegiate home run to left center as the ball shot through the incoming wind and over the fence to cut the lead to 4-3.

Truman had runners at second and third in the seventh when the Miners went to their pen for the second time in the inning and Dalton Erger got Bell to ground out to end the inning.

In the ninth, Charlie Kreh got a one-out single and was pinch ran for by Wyatt Fones. Evan Kayser struck out for the second out but Jason Priest kept things alive with an infield hit to deep short. Erger got Dave Gambino to ground out to pick up his first save of the season.

Brad Molski went six innings and gave up all four runs, three earned and fanned four S&T hitters but took the loss to fall to 0-3.
