RECAP: Softball Splits with Missouri-St. Louis in Road Doubleheader

ST. LOUIS - For the fourth time in its last five doubleheaders, the Truman softball team dropped the first game before winning the nightcap, this time on the road at Missouri-St. Louis. The Bulldogs lost the first contest in eight innings, 5-3, before coming to life offensively in game two for a 9-3 victory to earn the split with the Tritons.

Truman is now 26-16 overall, including 9-7 in the GLVC, while Missouri-St. Louis is looking at a mark of 26-12, 8-8 in league play. Saturday, the Bulldogs were paced by Christa Reisinger in the leadoff spot as she recorded six hits in her eight at-bats with three runs scored, one double, two RBI, and seven total bases. Behind the sophomore center fielder, Ashley Murphy had a good day at the plate with three hits in six at-bats, two RBI and three total bases.

In the first game, the Tritons led 1-0 after two innings before the Bulldogs hung up a three spot in the top of the third. That half inning, Alyssa Rivera reached on an error by the third baseman to score Haley Wells, Morgan McMahan singled in Reisinger and Lex Van Nostrand pushed across Rivera with a sacrifice fly down the left field line. That would be all the damage for the Purple and White, though, as Missouri-St. Louis scored two in the fifth to tie it and won it with a two-run walk-off shot to left in the bottom of the eighth.

Nicolette Simpson received a no decision after throwing 4.2 innings of three-run ball on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts. In relief, Alyssa Hajduk (3-5) took the loss with two earned given up on two hits, four free passes and two punchouts.

In the nightcap, the bats came to life for Truman as it scored two in the third, four in the fourth and three more in the fifth. That game, Reisinger turned in three hits while Van Nostrand, Murphy, Jamie Fowle, and Valerie Schmidt each had two. Reisinger, Van Nostrand and Murphy were each responsible for two RBI and Van Nostrand's both came on a two-run blast to left center in the fourth, her eighth home run of the season and 27th of her career.

Lauren Dale (12-6) went the distance for her ninth complete game of the year with three earned runs surrendered on 10 hits, not a single walk and one strikeout.

Next up, Truman hosts Maryville on Sunday with first pitch in game one set for 12 p.m. at Truman Softball Park.
