RECAP: Weekend Split For Truman Baseball With Maryville

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – A weekend series split for the Truman Baseball team with the Maryville Saints on Sunday. The Bulldogs won in dramatic fashion in the opener 4-3 while dropping the series finale 5-0.
 
Truman scored four times in the bottom of the seventh capped off by a hard hit single down the right field line by Mason King that brought in the game winner. However, the Bulldogs left 11 runners on base and were blanked 5-0.
 
For the series, Charlie Kreh and Jason Priest led Truman offensively with each collecting six hits in 12 at bats. Kreh had a home run to spark the Bulldogs in the seventh of the first game on Sunday while Priest had three doubles out of his six hits. Truman hit .299 for the set with eight doubles.
 
The Bulldog pitching staff limited Maryville to a .239 batting average but walked 18 hitters compared to 16 strikeouts.
 
Truman returns home for a holiday weekend series against Missouri S&T. They are scheduled to play doubleheaders starting at noon on both Friday and Saturday.
 
Game 1 Recap:
Mason King was mobbed when his sharp bouncer got past the first baseman as the Bulldogs completed a miraculous rally to win 4-3.
 
Maryville got the first run in the fourth when Camdon Mercier tripled into right field and chased Dalton Schumer all the way from first. Schumer had reached on an error so the run was unearned.
 
The Saints thought they had added enough insurance with two outs in the seventh. A bunt single by Daniel Covert with got a run in and a bases loaded walk brought in another for a 3-0 lead.
 
Charlie Kreh led off the bottom of the inning with his second home run of the season as it fought through the wind over the right field fence. Chris Iliopoulos singled and was pinch run for and Priest followed with a double to go into scoring position as the tying run.
 
Evan Kayser singled in the infield to score the second run which also moved Priest to third.
 
Wyatt Fones struck out for the second out. Adam Stolley and Nick Agliolo drew walks to load the bases.
 
King was ahead in the count 3-1 then with it full, bounced the ball down the first base line that got through for the winner.
 
Austin Tinsely picked up the win in relief of starter Rian Markes and Matt Tometz. Brian King took the loss after following starter Joey Lodes and Ryan Van Vokenburg to the hill.
 
Game 2 Recap:
A three-run second inning was all that Maryville needed as they shutout the 'Dogs 5-0 to split the weekend. A couple of errors compounded the issues in the inning and a double steal with Zach Ruckman scoring the third run.
 
The Saints added two more in the fourth on a two-run single by Tyler Catlett with two outs.
 
Truman stranded 11 for the game and the bases loaded in the third inning after Kreh doubled and Priest walked. In the fourth, King singled with two on and two outs but Evan Kayser over ran third base and was picked off to end the inning.
 
The Bulldogs got only three singles after the fifth inning.
 
Louis Niemerg started for Maryville and pitched six innings before letting Clayton Luley and Brandon Downey finish it off.
 
Brad Molski took the loss for Truman with three of the five runs scored unearned. Tyler Blackington, Matt Tometz and Blake Bagenstos put up zeros out of the pen.
