Game 1 Box Score (HTML)
Game 2 Box Score (HTML)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Bulldog Baseball team got a complete effort from the offense, defense and pitching as they picked up their first doubleheader sweep in conference this year with 11-2 and 2-0 wins over Missouri S&T on Friday. The teams return to action on Saturday at noon.

Four players had three hits apiece in the opener and senior pitcher Alex Hoffmann became the all-time wins leader for the Bulldogs in the 11-2 win. Hoffmann passed former teammate and current Missouri S&T assistant coach Cody Gardner with his 16 victory on the mound. Hoffmann allowed six hits over seven innings and let his offense pound out 16 hits and a pair of home runs.

Four Bulldog pitchers combine on the four-hit shutout in game two. Rian Markes went four-plus and Matt Tometz, Kent Frantz and Peter Young closed the door. Dave Gambino and Jon Lyons had six of the nine Truman hits.

Game 1 Recap:
An offensive barrage and the best pitching performance of the season from starter Alex Hoffmann led the Bulldogs to a dominate 11-2 win in the opener.

Hoffmann allowed six hits and one run through seven innings before giving way to Tyler Blackington for the final two.  Hoffmann picked up career win 16 and evened his season record to 3-3.

He got support from the middle of the Bulldog lineup. The two through five hitters went 12-for-19 (.631) with each collecting three hits apiece.

The scoring started in the first on an RBI single by Charlie Kreh that scored Mason King. Wyatt Fones singled to center to score Evan Keyser in the second and King belted his first home run of the season to start the third.

Truman added run when Kreh doubled and scored on a single by Chris Iliopoulos also in the third.

The Miners cut the lead to 4-1 with a two-out RBI single by Zach Bracken to plate Lucas Swindle.

The Bulldogs were able to blow things open by batting around in the fifth. The first four reached with Jason Priest getting an RBI single and Keyser getting a sac fly for the first two runs then Truman got bases loaded hit by pitch (Adam Stolley) and a walk (Nick Agliolo) for the other two to make it 8-1.

Priest lifted a high fly that got over the fence for his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the sixth and King capped the 'Dogs scoring with an RBI single in the seventh.

The Miners got an unearned run in the ninth as Blackington fanned the final two hitters with the bases juiced.

Trent Green surrendered 10 hits and six runs over the course of four innings for S&T to be tagged with the loss.

Game 2 Recap:
Starter Rian Markes wiggled out of a first inning jam after putting two on with one out but got a big strikeout and groundout to start the game.

The Bulldogs left a runner at third in their half of the first.

Markes set down six straight until a hit by pitch to speedy Eli Miller in the third. Markes got Matt Knickerbocker to ground into a double play to end the inning and Truman turned that momentum into a run in the bottom of the third.

Nick Agliolo, who started the big double play, single to right and advanced on a sac bunt from Mason King. Charlie Kreh got one to the gap in right center to bring in Agliolo for the first run.

Truman loaded the bases in the fourth but Anthony Garza got Agliolo swinging to end the inning.

In the fifth, S&T put two on and Coach Dan Davis went to his bullpen. Matt Tometz walked the first hitter he faced to load the bases but then got back-to-back strikeouts of Knickerbocker and Adam Richter to keep Truman on top 1-0.

Tometz retired the first hitter in the sixth and Kent Frantz used just two pitches to get the other two outs.

Dave Gambino and Evan Keyser hit one-out singles in the sixth and Jon Lyons shot one through the left side. Gambino was sent home and came in for the insurance run as the throw was cutoff.

Peter Young set the Miners down 1-2-3 for his fifth save and 19th of his career.
