RECAP: Truman Shutsdown Lincoln 20-13 For Homecoming Win

Box Score

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Jaden Barr ran for a career-high 165 yards and a stout Truman defense held the Lincoln Blue Tigers to only 43 yards until midway through the fourth quarter in a 20-14 homecoming victory on Saturday afternoon.

The "three-headed" attack of Barr, Jordan Salima and Andy Satulla accounted for 352 rushing yards as Truman methodically controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The Bulldogs had four drives of over 10 plays and five drives last longer than four minutes. Truman finished with 422 offensive yards and 37:55 of possession time.

Satulla capped off an 11-play, 96-yard march with a one-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter to give the Bulldogs the 7-0 lead. Josh Scheiderer connected on a 21-yard field goal at the 3:14 mark of the quarter to give Truman a 10-0 advantage.

The lead extended to 17 after Salima punched it in from four yards out on the opening drive of the second half.  Scheiderer hit from 27 on the Bulldogs next possession to make it 20-0.

The defense teed off on the Blue Tiger offense all afternoon. The Bulldogs registered five quarterback sacks and 10 tackles for loss while holding Lincoln to 43 total yards through three quarters. Sam Reeves picked up his 29th career qb sack to close to within three of the school record and tied the Truman mark in career tackles for loss with 1.5 and 41.5 for his career.

Lincoln punted in their first seven possessions and never crossed midfield until quarterback Henry Ogala chucked up a bomb down the left sideline that was hauled in by Blake Tibbs for 77-yards and a touchdown with 7:54 remaining in the game.

Tibbs caught a 41-yard pass on an identical play in their next possession and later a 35-yard reception down to the Truman two. After a spiked pass to kill the clock, Ogala found Ezekial Lang in the endzone for the score to make it 20-13.

The onsides kick did not go the required 10-yards and Truman ran out the clock with five seconds left.

Barr finished with 165 on the ground on 16 carries and added 71 passing yards on 12 completions. Malique Robbins snared three balls for 21 yards. Salima had 23 rushes for 105 yards and Satulla had 82 yards on 17 attempts.

The Blue Tigers netted only 12 rushing yards with the five sacks digging into Kimbo Ferguson's 33 yards gained. Tibbs finished with 158 yards receiving on four grabs.

Truman will return to the road next Saturday when they face Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar. The Bearcats were stunned at home by McKendree 26-23 in overtime after allowing the tying touchdown in the final minute of regulation. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.
