RECAP: Champs Again! Women's Soccer Grabs Piece Of GLVC Crown With 3-2 Win

Box Score

LIBERTY, Mo. – For the second time in three seasons and the 11th time in school history the Truman Women's Soccer team can claim the title of conference champions. The Bulldogs rallied from two goals down to earn a 3-2 victory on the road at William Jewell to grab a piece of the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season championship.

It has been four matches and nearly 400 minutes played between Truman and William Jewell since the Cardinals last scored a goal against the Bulldogs. It took only two minutes into Wednesday's match and seven-plus minutes to see Jewell up 2-0.

Kayla Crowder scored two goals, her fifth and sixth of the season, to put the Cardinals up. Her first goal came at the 2:47 mark and second one was 7:10 into the contest.

Not to panic, the Bulldogs chipped away. Maggie Beem continued her hot streak with the first goal of the match in the 20th minute. Addy Hoffman and Camryn Sprague got the helpers on Beem's fourth goal of the year and fifth point in the last three matches.

After a foul by Jewell, Hanna Burke scored the equalizer with a free kick goal at the top of the box. Burke's goal was her team-leading fifth of the season.

Truman continued to pour on the pressure as the game moved forward. The Bulldogs had a distinct advantage in the offensive categories with a 31-13 shot advantage, 15-5 shots on goal and four corners to the Cardinals one.

With a shade over 15 minutes left to play, the ball came in from the left side of the net and knocked off a Cardinal defender past keeper Miranda Kirchoff for an own goal and the 3-2 lead.

The Bulldogs shared the 2016 regular season crown with Rockhurst and will share the 2018 championship with McKendree and Southern Indiana with 9-3-1 conference records. The conference will pour through tie breakers and determine the seeding for Sunday's quarterfinal round of the GLVC tournament. The Bulldogs will be at home for a noon match.

In news from earlier in the day, the team was ranked eighth in the NCAA regional poll that is used to determine the field for the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament. The regional tournament will be comprised of the three conference tournament champions (GLVC, GLIAC, GAC) and five at-large bids.
