RECAP: Edmundson's Hot Night Leads Bulldogs To 73-56 Victory

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Rachel Edmundson scored a season-high 20 points, going 7-of-10 from the field and 6-of-8 from distance as the Truman Women's Basketball team downed Rockhurst 73-56 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Thursday night.
 
It was Edmundson's first 20-point night since February 2017 and fourth for her career.  She was joined in double figures by Maddie Re's 12 points and Allison Thomas' 10. Re made her first collegiate start and added nine rebounds.  Brooke Bailey matched her career high again with six assists and Truman and was credited with 20 assists on 25 made baskets.
 
Rockhurst had the hot hand to start hitting five of their first six shots but after the two teams were tied at 18 after one quarter, the Hawks made just one more field goal for the half. Both teams suffered five minute scoring droughts in the second only Truman took a 28-25 lead into the break.
 
The drought continued for Rockhurst in the third and Truman built upon the lead outscoring the Hawks 25-13 in the quarter. The Hawks got as close as 10 with 4:23 to play but the Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run.
 
Truman's second half was 16-of-31 from the field and 7-of-14 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs shot 43% for the game overall and 48% from three.
 
Mary Leigh Rock was the only Rockhurst player in double figures with 10 points off the bench.
 
The Bulldogs, now 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the GLVC, will host William Jewell on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Cardinals enter with a 3-3 record and 0-1 in the conference. They were defeated by Quincy 58-49 on Thursday.
